When you have finished writing a book, it is time to learn how to publish a book. It is pretty common that aspiring writers have idea about writing a book but they do not know how to convert their idea from the screen of the computer into the print media. With the advent of the internet, individuals have more opportunity to write a book, share and get it published. You can choose between traditional publishing and self publishing. In the former, one needs to get in touch with en editor, an agent and the publishing house. But, in self-publishing, you can choose the publishers and the variety of services online. There are several publishing models that encompasses print-on-demand, subsidy, vanity, self-publishing.

What happens in self-publishing?

Self-publishing is more popular in today’s times. When you decide to self-publish your book, you will have to invest your money to produce the piece, that is, have to bear the printing charges. Then, you need to market the book, warehouse and distribute it. Although, sometime is invested here but the process is far more cost-effective than subsidy and vanity publishing.

Should you go for traditional publishing?

In the traditional publishing, the author is offered a contract from the publisher and then moves on to print the book, publish and sell the book through the retailers and booksellers. Here the publisher simply buys the right of publishing the book and in return pays royalties attained from sales. If you wish to publish your book traditionally, you have to get in touch with an agent. First, one needs to find the category of book and only then publishing will start. For different kinds of books, there are different formalities to be catered.

Which mode of publishing is right?

If seeing your printed book is your only goal, choose vanity publishing. The publisher will not give you any editing services, marketing or promotional help. On the other hand, POD or print on demand is suitable when you write a family memoir having limited audience. If you have a visible platform to reach out to your audience, you should go for self-publishing. Well, if you think you have time to publish the book, devote time on book promotion, then self-publishing is for you. But then, there are some who do not have any online presence and cannot reach out to the audience on their own, they can choose traditional publishing route.

If you want to choose traditional publishing, find a reliable agent online. You can reach out to the audiences via the social networking sites as well.
