As women, we are super lucky when it comes to fashion. We can wear practically anything we want, including men’s style boots, such as cowboy boots or Chelsea boots. Most of us will want to "feminise" these styles up a little, and this is the subject of this blog. Below, you will find some great tips to help you to make the most of these styles and still feel as if you have your womanly charms.

The first thing that you need to do if you want to maintain a feminine look is to make sure that the rest of your outfit is flattering. This means wearing clothes that are fitted or tailored. With women’s cowboy boots, the tailored look might appear a bit out of place, but fitted clothes, e.g. skinny jeans, will go a long way to creating a feminine look – the boots just add edge.

With other styles of boot, such as the Chelsea boot, then you can easily team them with a tailored outfit. For example, a tailored suit and a pair of Chelsea boots would look great at your next office meeting.

Next, consider choosing boots that sports some type of feminine style or added extra. For example, choose a cowboy boot that is relatively narrow, so that it sits closely to the leg and foot. This creates definition that follows your feminine frame, and so flatters and emphasises you womanliness. You can also add an extra layer of femininity by choosing boots that have a feminine pattern, such as flowers or jewels.

One issue that many women have with taller boots is the shaft. It tends to be too narrow for many of us and when we squeeze our legs into the boots, it creates this "square" shape, which is traditionally associated with the masculine physique. In other words, the boots can make us look more masculine that we are.

To address this issue, look for those brands that offer women’s wide calf boots. There are many such brands about, and because they cater specifically for women, they often have an intuitive grasp on how to create boots that are feminine. Buying boots with a wider shaft means that you are likely to find flattering and feminine styles.

It’s a great way to buy boots and it means that you don’t have to put in quite the effort in hunting them out. You simply need to know which brands these are. Here are a few names to get you started: Mustang, Timberland, Adesso, Marco Tozzi, etc. – very masculine sounding names, but surprisingly have a decent amount of flattering and feminine styles.

Finally, choose boots that have the classic female shapes, i.e. pointed toes and high heels. These will help to balance out the masculine style of the boot against the feminine style of its structure. It’s unlikely that you'll find extremely high heels or very pointy toes on such a style of boot, but the trick is to avoid the lower heels and the round or square toes.
