Precise Lens Measurements for Better Performance

If a lens is going to be used for producing an image, whether on your eye's retina or a viewing screen or for something like optics for lasers, the performance of that lens - whether it is made correctly or not - must be measured. Image Science designs and builds optic testing equipment - called benches - that allow the performance testing of just about any type of lens to determine quality.

Optic lenses must be ground and shaped perfectly to create the right thickness and curvature that will allow an image to be seen accurately. Think about the lasers used in surgery - the laser light must pass through an optic lens to be used. If those lenses are not machined perfectly, the laser will not perform as needed and that could be disastrous. If your eyeglass lenses are not made with perfection, you will not be able to see correctly as light must pass through the exact point at which your own eyes need the adjustment to provide the right level of correction for 20/20 vision.

As making optical lenses is a precise business, so also is the making of the machines and equipment benches that test for quality. In business for over 27 years, Image Science has perfected these machines and pieces of equipment so that the measurement increment required can be adequately tested. Used in either research and development or production divisions of optics manufacturing, the Image Science MTF, or Modulation Transfer Function, benches are crafted with nearly 30 decades of experience and expertise. In fact, the benches manufactured and supplied by Image Science go beyond MTF Testing. They can make benches for measurements including phase transfer function, effective focal length, flange focal length, field curvature, distortion, vignetting, astigmatism, chromatic aberration, field of view, absolute transmission, encircled energy and ensquared energy.

With all of these different types of measurement for optic lenses, some of which must be combined to completely test the same lens depending on application, the equipment benches from Image Science are crafted with quality as the number one ingredient. Image Science can even test pre-production prototypes for those clients who wish the work be done in-house with Image Science.

The focus on a movie camera, for another example, relies on optic lens testing in order to be able to apply the extreme high-focus needed to capture moving pictures used for commercial viewing. There are so many industries that rely on accurate optics that there is very little that doesn't have some impact from high quality optic lenses, and Image Science is the testing equipment expert to help make it all happen.

No matter what type of lenses you have that need MFT testing or other parameter testing in order to be 100% accurate for their applications, Image Science can produce the testing bench you need to make your testing work. Their decades of experience make them the number one choice for optic lens accuracy testing that provides results every time. If you have a special testing parameter need, don't hesitate to contact Image Science to see what they can do for you.
