When Moving To France You Need A Specialist Company That Understands Everything That Is Involved

If you are going to move to France you will know that it is not very far away. Just over 20 miles or so – give or take an inch – from Dover to Calais. From some points on the South East coast in Ramsgate or Broadstairs, Folkestone or Dover, you can actually see Calais on a clear, sunny day. However, if you are moving to Nice or somewhere else on the French Riviera you can add on another 750 miles, so that isn’t going to happen in a day!

It follows that for France removals you will need the services of a removal company that is a specialist at moving from the UK to France. It doesn’t matter whether you need to move a couple of small cartons, a single piece of furniture, the contents of a bungalow, or the contents of a whole office: the procedure is the same.

You will need to use a company that has packers who can pack everything securely so that it doesn’t move about in transit. For instance, who knows what the weather is going to do? Dover to Calais may only be 20 miles but if a Force 9 wind breaks out – which happens – the ferry can be rocking about all over the place, and your removals lorry with it. If everything in the lorry is not packed correctly, things can slip and slide about inside it and breakages can occur.

Not Just Packing That Is Important

Of course, it is not just the packing that is important, although that is a critical part of the removal process. You also need a company whose drivers are as familiar with French roads and French traffic laws as they are with those in the UK. They also have to carry all the correct paperwork for entry to France at the port and be able to speak and understand French – even if you don’t yet – so that they have all the right answers if they are stopped by customs officials.

On top of that, if you are going any real distance from the ports of entry, the drivers have to have somewhere to take their official breaks, and somewhere to sleep overnight. French law regarding drivers’ breaks is just as demanding as ours, if not more so.

Next is the question of exactly where you are going to move to. Some of those beautiful little cottages and homes are in mountainous regions and little villages which have narrow access. You might have chosen this place to live or work for that very reason – it’s out in the countryside and away from the crowded hustle and bustle of a city. However, a full size removal lorry, with or without a trailer, is very unlikely to be able to get to where you want to go.

Suddenly there is another reason for choosing a removal company to France that has years of experience, and equally important has links with removal companies in the country. This way, it can make arrangements with its’ partners in France to break down the contents of your home or office into much smaller loads which can then be transported to the village of your choice on lorries which have the ability to negotiate all those narrow bends, corners, and lanes in order that your possessions can get to where you want them to go.

You can begin to see that moving to France is not quite the same thing as moving from Preston to Burnley, or Manchester to Hull, or even Glasgow to Fowey in Cornwall.

Here is another thing to consider: it may be that you have sold your home in the UK and are moving to France, but your new home is not yet ready to move into. This means that you will need somewhere to store all your furniture and possessions - perhaps in the UK, or perhaps in France – until your new place is ready. How does that work?

A specialist removal company to France should be able to store your belongings here or have contacts with a company in France who can do so.

There is a lot to consider when moving to France, so the choice of a removal company is not a decision to be taken lightly.
