The combination of the mountainous and rugged landscape, matched with the ginormous bodies of water and heavy periods of rainfall means that the Kimberley is home to some of the most breathtaking and beautiful waterfalls in the country. These are some of the best ways to get the most out of these amazing natural wonders:

  1. Waterfall Heli-Adventure with Swim

This truly is the most exhilarating way to experience the waterfalls of the region, as you’ll not only see them from the air, but your HeliSpirit helicopter will make a landing, allowing you to take a swim in absolute privacy. This tour typically operates from February to June, and has no predetermined flight path – your pilot will take you to the best waterfall spot on the day of your flight. Once you find the perfect place, you’ll touch down and relax in the beautiful fresh water. As well as admiring the beautiful waterfalls, this flight also offers stunning views of the mountain ranges surrounding Kununurra, the huge Ord River, and the surrounding tracts of irrigated farmland around the town of Kununurra. This is an absolute must for anyone with a love for waterfalls!

  1. Mitchell Falls Discoverer Tour

The Mitchell Falls are undeniably amongst the most stunning and renowned waterfalls within the Kimberley. For the ultimate Mitchell Falls experience, you can’t go past Aviair’s Mitchell Falls Discoverer Tour. Departing from Kununurra, this tour starts with a scenic aeroplane flight to the Mitchell Falls, giving magnificent views of the Ord River Irrigation Area, Carlton Hill Station, Wyndham and the Cambridge Gulf, before reaching the coast. Once reaching the Falls, your plane will land at the Mitchell Plateau Airstrip where you will be met by a HeliSpirit helicopter. This helicopter will fly you to the start of the hike into the Falls – you will disembark here and take the scenic hike into the Falls. Once at the Falls, you will have time to marvel at their beauty, take a swim in the Mitchell River above the Falls and admire the fascinating flora and fauna of this area. You will be transferred via helicopter from the top of the Falls back to the Airstrip, where you will board your return scenic flight to Kununurra.

  1. Bungle Bungle Flight & Private Cathedral Gorge Guided Walk

For another ultimate waterfall adventure, this tour is mind blowing – especially when taken during periods of rainfall. Your scenic helicopter flight will depart from Kununurra, taking you right into the heart of Purnululu National Park. If there has been recent rainfall, you will spot numerous waterfalls amongst the ranges and mountains along the way. From December to March, when the National Park is closed to drive-in visitors, you will land at the Cathedral Gorge car park to start a guided walk alongside a tour guide. This tour allows you to be one of only a handful of people who have entered Purnululu in the waterfall season between December and April. The colours are brighter after the rain and the creeks are filled with water, meaning that you can swim in one of the most beautiful places on earth, often whilst surrounded by trickling waterfalls.
