What is teeth sensitivity? Well, it's a sudden jolt of pain that's been known to ruin your day. Almost everyone had been a victim of tooth sensitivity and it often comes at an unreasonable moment at the most unexpected time.

It often strikes in the office, in the middle of a presentation to your board members, in school while presenting your report to the class or in the beach, while having fun with your family and friends and aside from being very painful, it doesn't go away easily either.

Having extreme teeth sensitivity is very uncomfortable. We cannot enjoy the food and drinks that we want to have especially if it’s hot or cold. There are various reasons why we have extreme teeth sensitivity.

The reason for teeth sensitivity also known as dentin hypersensitivity is when the enamel of the teeth slowly wears down which is usually caused by dentin on root areas exposed due to gum problems. Dentin is the hard dense bony tissue beneath the enamel that forms the bulk of your tooth. Once it's gone, it easily exposes the nerves of your tooth to hot & cold. It's a very upsetting situation that needs immediate attention and fast relief.

There are several factors that cause this problem, like over-brushing the teeth using a medium or hard toothbrush, tooth grinding (Bruxism), dental cleanings or treatments, eating disorder like bulimia and eating foods and drinks that are very acidic. A very acidic diet, for example, a diet with a lot of citrus food, pickles or soda pop can cause tooth erosion and dissolve the tooth surface, exposing the dentin. Bulimia and GERD can also result in dental erosion and sensitivity due to acid in the mouth. Having tooth sensitivity is an early sign that you have an infection or tooth decay.

There are a few things that you can do to relieve the symptoms of extreme tooth sensitivity. Here are some common home remedies that can help with the pain:

-Salt Water

This is one of the most common remedy used for toothache and tooth sensitivity. Salt water acts as a natural antiseptic that helps fight bacteria not only in your mouth but also in your gums and throat as well.

-Guava Leaves

Since the beginning of time it has been known that guava leaves have medicinal properties, they also contain Flavonoids, which can help alleviate tooth sensitivity and toothache.

-Garlic

Garlic had always been regarded as a spice food, commonly used or added to our dishes to give it more flavour. Little that we know that it contains Allicin, an antibacterial agent and natural anaesthetic that lessens teeth sensitivity while preventing further infection.

-Red Onion

So much like the garlic, red onions have Flavonoids that prevents inflammation while relieving teeth sensitivity and pain.

-Coconut Oil

Everyone knows that coconut oil is used to keep our heart & body healthy by turning bad cholesterol to good cholesterol, it also aids in eliminating oral bacteria and in making our teeth and gums healthy & strong thus lessening tooth sensitivity and decay.

But although this home remedies can alleviate your teeth sensitivity, it can only give you temporary comfort for your pain. If pain still persists, go to your nearest dentist in Sydney to prevent tooth infection and decay.
