Ayurveda is a science of life; it is an ancient system of medicine born in ancient India. Ayurveda provides us tools to stay healthy, youthful, and realize our true potential. In Ayurveda, it is believed that a strong metabolism of food and healthy digestion is key to good health. According to Ayurveda, our body is made up of five basic elements named as earth (Prithvi), water(Jala), wind(Vayu), fire( Agni), space( Akash). Our body is said to be the derivatives of these elements in the form of Tridoshas that can be categorized as Vata, pitta, and Kapha. They are present in our body in different proportion and Ayurveda believes that everybody is different and every dietary requirement are different.

Here are some rules you must acquire to stay healthy with Ayurveda:

Always eat hot and fresh food: Choices of your food depends on your body types and according to the changing seasons. Ayurveda always emphasis on filling your body with fresh food instead of the processed ones. Our body is also made to process natural and wholesome food over processed food. Fill your body with wholesome food, seasonal fruits, and vegetables over refined ones. But make sure not to make your food strictly raw, taking salad as an additive is good, but food should be warm and perfectly seasoned with spices so that it can aid in digestion.

Eat only when you are hungry: There should be an ample amount of time between your meals so that you will not suffer from the problem of indigestion. When we feel hungry, and our previous meal is digested, then our Agni is ready to digest our next meal. Eating even when you are not hungry can lead to indigestion and Kapha disorder that is gaining weight.

Have a set routine: Ayurveda strictly emphasis on having a routine, having a good sleep cycle, and waking in very crucial in Ayurveda. One should sleep on time(around 10 pm) and wake before sunrise, do some light yoga and eat on time to balance the Agni optimally and keep your body healthy.

Drink your water mindfully: Our body knows when it needs to be hydrated. It is required to drink 3 liters of water but doesn’t gulp it down. Drink it slowly and mindfully; also, it is said in Ayurveda to drink your water while you are sitting. If you are to drink water while standing, it can lead to arthritis and edema, etc. Also, as soon as you wake up, drink water, which is a little warm or at room temperature, as it will promote bowel movement.

Practice yoga and meditation: Exercise is very important for healthy living. When you practice yoga, your body releases serotonin that uplifts your mood instantly and also beneficial for your body. Some simple yogic posture like Hatha yoga regimen can make your body strong and agile. Also, practicing meditation for at least 20 minutes daily can help you to cope up with daily stress. Meditation helps in reflecting on our thoughts and makes the complexities of our life so simple.

Create a balance and look at the brighter side of life: according to Ayurveda, creating a balance between your food, sleep, and sense is necessary. Don’t overindulge in anything, and maintaining a balance is a key to good health. Also, create a positive outlook about your life; it is full of surprises.
