There is nothing more attractive than newly installed Asphalt pavement. It is so smooth and enhances the beauty of the entire house.

Once you have installed the asphalt driveway, you can relax for about two decades, knowing that you will not have to care about investing in asphalt resurfacing any more. But that is possible only if you take good care of your driveway.

I must tell you that asphalt is considered one of the best materials for driveway construction and is very durable. However, it can live up to its standards only if taken proper care of.

So, if you too have got asphalt driveway installed lately, here are the do’s and don’ts list that will ensure long-lasting life for it.

Do

Give asphalt some time to cure

Many people do not know this but after champion asphalt installation ittakesthe time of good one year to cure. But that does not mean that you cannot use the driveway, till then. Once the asphalt driveway dries up and starts it’s curing process, you are good to go. However, you’ll need to take extra care to monitor the driveway until the process is fully complete.

This includes monitoring the weight of vehicles being driven on the driveway, the length of time during which a certain vehicle is parked in place, etc.

Clean oil spills immediately

Few things like oil can damage the asphalt driveway. Oil can break down the chemical binders within the asphalt, thus weakening the overall structural integrity of your driveway and leading to major problems.

So make sure to quickly get rid of any oil spills on the fresh asphalt driveway.

Drive slow!

It is better than you take your sweet time pulling into and backing out of your driveway at a slower pace than to compromise the integrity and beauty of the pavement by creating scuff marks and scarring.

Don’ts

Don’t drive on new Asphalt driveway for the first 24 hours

Ok, we understand that after asphalt driveway construction you cannot wait to drive it. Sure, enjoy your drive but not before the first 24 hours of its installation.

During these initial hours, the asphalt will still be relatively soft and will be affected by the weight of vehicles.

While you should be able to safely drive on your driveway after 24 hours, in some cases you may want to wait as many as 48 to 72 hours, especially during summers.

Don’t park the vehicle in the same spot again and again

If you keep the vehicle parked in the same spot of the driveway, again and again, there are high chances that it will lead to the formation of low spots around the driveway. The asphalt driveway is very sensitive to the weights of the vehicles for the first 6 months, so avoid parking your vehicle in the same spot.

Don’t drive close to the edge

Well, the edge of the driveway is structurally the weakest point during the initial days after it’s construction. So, don’t make the mistake of driving close to edges as it will lead to cracks and weakening of the edges of the driveway.
