Now is the time when parents are troubled by this question — which board to choose for their children after 10th class if their target is IIT. This post tries to answer this question in brief.

Syllabus - Telangana State board has a slight edge over CBSE

This may come as a surprise. But this is true. JEE Main and JEE Advanced exams are more or less based on the NCERT syllabus. The Telangana (as also Andhra Pradesh) Intermediate Board uses NCERT books for Physics & Chemistry. That means as far as Physics & Chemistry are concerned, there is no difference between CBSE & Telangana Inter Board. As far as maths is concerned it is a well-recognized fact that the state board has a slight edge.

Integrated coaching for IIT (JEE Main & Advanced) - Available only in State Board Colleges

Competition being very high for the limited seats in the IITs, it is imperative that the preparation for the board as well as for JEE is synchronized and offered by a single institute. The Intermediate - MPC with IIT course offered at Junior Colleges such as NANO Junior College scores over CBSE because CBSE schools do not offer integrated coaching. The students have to go for separate tuitions or coaching for a couple of hours either before school hours or after. This is an inferior option because of a number of reasons

  1. the time available for JEE coaching is grossly inadequate
  2. the coaching for JEE will not be synchronized with what is happening at the school and the student will get squeezed between the two
  3. lot of time and energy will be wasted shuttling from the school to the coaching center and back
  4. if coaching is organized by the school on the same campus they will not be able to hire good part-time faculty as quality IIT faculty will not go on part-time assignments

Time available for JEE preparation: 10-12 hours vs 2-3 hours

In the case of integrated coaching available in state board junior colleges, students spend 10-12 hours for JEE preparation, whereas in the case of CBSE schools a maximum of 2-3 hours only can be spared for JEE coaching.

Ease of preparation for Board exams - Telangana Intermediate Board Vs CBSE

It is a well known fact that when it comes to preparation for board exams Telangana State Intermediate board (IPE) is the easiest to prepare for. Students can score over 90% effortlessly even if they start a couple of months before the exams. Also, CBSE keeps the students busy with projects and other assignments. So a State Board student can get away with minimal preparation for the board exam and use the remaining time for JEE preparation.

Considering all the above factors for a student staying in Telangana or Andhra Pradesh choosing the State Intermediate Board over CBSE is a no brainer. The same analysis applies to ICSE students too.

50% of students at NANO Junior College come from CBSE/ICSE boards

CBSE/ICSE students choose NANO Junior College because they are most comfortable here for the following reasons

  1. Conceptual approach to teaching — no rote learning
  2. Subjects are taught from scratch — so even if a student has not gone for any IIT foundation course (like most CBSE/ICSE students) it won’t be a problem
  3. Stress Free approach
  4. Strong doubts clarification culture
  5. Convenient timings
  6. Limited strength and hence personal attention.
