1. St Moritz Hotel, Cornwall

No list in the light of current events would be complete without a couple of entries from the UK and one eye on practicality and in the St Moritz Hotel we present a stunning example of how to present an accessible hotel holiday. The St Moritz boasts two fully accessible rooms (one suite and one twin room) with lift access to the main restaurant, where you can enjoy high quality meals. There are also a seaside cafe and food trucks by the seaside, that are accessible for all. This is handy especially for Sunday and Monday evenings, when the restaurant will be closed until 30th August on these days. The St Moritz offers stunning views of the coastline, a beautiful atmosphere and an indoor pool with disabled changing areas and a hoist system for access. Especially this year, when you might find foreign travel particularly difficult, this is an excellent option.

2. Maison Des Landes Hotel, Jersey

The Channel Islands is an excellent holiday option right now, with just proof of COVID-19 vaccination and a negative test required before departure. Situated in Jersey, the Maison Des Landes is a lovely little hotel complex specialising in accessible stays. There are a total of 23 bedrooms – so it is an intimate arrangement. These are set up as two 3-bed rooms, fifteen twin-bed rooms and six singles. Fifteen of the rooms are on the ground floor. Most rooms benefit from a hoist and a walk-in/wheel-in shower, as Vitally, all rooms boast emergency call buttons. Fourteen of the ground floor rooms benefit from electric beds. The dining room is very easily accessible and the hotel is great at being flexible for dietary needs. As for the indoor pool it is spacious and purpose built with wheelchair ramps and hoists for easy access and exit. Hotel staff are always available to assist guests into and out of the pool if needed.

3. Chewton Glen, New Forest

This is one for a luxury treat. Prices may be high, but as it’s within the UK, you do save on air fares and associated costs. Chewton Glen is beautifully situated in the New Forest and is an up-market spa hotel featuring incredible facilities and dining with staff that are always happy to go above and beyond the call of duty. The accessible room in the hotel is famous for its wide doors, grab rails and accessible terrace. All staff are trained in disability awareness and the restaurant makes provisions for wheelchairs. A stair climber is in place for access to the award-winning spa and a disabled changing room and hoist for access to the pool are available. In addition there are 12 wheelchair friendly tree-house suites, affording panoramic views over the woods for the more adventurous! We’re not even finished with the advantages as staff are on hand to drive you to local beaches – Highcliff and Mudeford - both of which benefit from wide esplanades perfect for wheelchair access. This is one place that has to be experienced to be believed.
