The Obgyn treatments mainly deal with ailments and diseases like Amenorrhoea (absent menstrual periods), Incontinence of urine, Dysmenorrhoea or painful menstrual periods, Menorrhagia or heavy menstrual periods, prolapse of pelvic organs, viral, bacterial, fungal and protozoan infections of vagina, cervix and uterus and infertility also. The treatments may employ medical or surgical therapies or both. However, surgery is the core of obgyn therapy. The non-surgical treatment includes the use of prescribed antibiotics and other hormonal medications.

Obstetrics and gynaecology when combined as one single medical speciality is often abbreviated as OB/GYN, OBG, O&G or Obs & Gynae. It deals with the female reproductive organs and involves treatment of both pregnant and non-pregnant patients. Individually, Obstetrics is the branch of medical science that deals with the women's reproductive tracts and the new born infants during the prenatal, childbirth and the postnatal period. On the other hand Gynaecology is the medical exercise that handles the care and treatment of the female uterus, vagina, ovaries and other elements of their reproductive system.

Some of the most commonly practised surgeries involved in Obgyn treatments are Dilation and curettage, Hysterectomy, Hysteroscopy, Oophorectomy, Tubal ligation, Diagnostic laparoscopy and Exploratory laparotomy, Cervical Excision Procedures, Appendectomy, and many other operative procedures. Dilation and curettage is the procedure that involves removal of the uterine contents through surgery. This is done when there is a partial miscarriage or when some dysfunctional uterine bleeding has affected the uterus to the extent where it becomes compulsory to remove the uterine contents. In some cases, the entire uterus has to be removed. Hysterectomy is the surgery that removes the uterus. It also involves the diagnosis and inspection of the uterine tracts. However, when the ovaries are removed the process is known as Oophorectomy.

These surgical Obgyn treatments also deal with matters related to permanent sterilization (Tubal ligation ). Diagnostic laparoscopy is also a part of such treatments wherein this method is widely used for the diagnosis and treatment of pelvic and abdominal pain. Cervical Excision Procedures such as cryosurgery also come under obgyn treatments which is the surgery that involves the removal of the cervical surface. The surface or part of the cervix that is affected by pre-cancerous cells is also removed through such kind of obgyn surgeries. Most of the gynaecologists or obgyn practitioners employ the technique of Exploratory laparotomy to diagnose the presence of any malevolent or harmful disease in the pelvic organs, and their treatment.
