Linje Rivers: Financial Regulation Law Attorney
Linje Rivers has spent almost the entirety of his legal career as a financial regulation attorney working with the State of Florida. He was a Senior Attorney for the State of Florida Department of Financial Services for five years. While there, he handled legal services for the state’s Chief Financial Officer, in charge of handling the state’s financial matters. As a Senior Attorney, Rivers provided legal counsel to many state officials regarding financial services. Over his career, his knowledge of state financial regulatory practices and requirements grew. In June of 2015, Rivers moved on to work for the Office of Financial Regulation as Senior Attorney.
The Office of Financial Regulation handles the enforcement and regulation of all financial institutions within the state of Florida. With its three divisions and two bureaus, the OFR works to protect consumers and register all financial institutions in order to ensure the Florida economy does not suffer from impropriety or unsafe financial practices. As a Senior Attorney with the OFR, Linje Rivers provides legal counsel to the OFR’s many investigators and other regulators who deal with large financial companies such as securities brokers, financial advisors, mortgage lenders, and more. He has helped personnel within the OFR conduct their investigations and regulatory duties with his legal counsel.
Linje Rivers says that he loves his work because it affects many consumers and business owners throughout the state of Florida. He tries to help them all succeed and continue to grow the Florida economy responsibly. He has represented the State of Florida and its citizens at various levels of state agencies. Rivers has spent many hours learning the financial regulations and how they affect citizens and private businesses throughout the state. Rivers says that his work is important to him because he is a part of the organization that makes it safe for consumers to use large financial institutions that seem to wield all of the power. Rivers helps keeps these institutions in check and helps people find ways to hold these institutions accountable. He also works with the state to hold financial institutions accountable for the overall health of the economy.
Linje Rivers supplements his work at the state Office of Financial Regulation by serving as the Treasurer of the Legal Aid Foundation, a nonprofit organization that provides free legal counsel to low-income individuals and families struggling with legal issues. Legal Aid gets families representation for family court.
