The carmakers in India are getting ready for the festive season. This is the time that the country sees the maximum number of launches. It is also one of the most favoured periods for purchasing cars in India. Accordingly, almost all car manufacturers try to schedule their launches to coincide with the festive season here. One of the most anticipated cars of this year is Renault Kwid, which is expected to launch in India in a few days.

The sub-four meter car is the first of its kind from the French automaker. Moreover, it will be the first car from the maker to be made on the all-new CMF-A platform of Renault. This underpinning was developed in coordination with Nissan and is expected to be featured on the new car from Nissan in the same segment. Furthermore, Renault and Nissan have also jointly developed the engine on duty under the hood of Kwid.

Unlike most other Renault cars, the Kwid will be priced economically. According to reports, this compact car will be priced between three and four lakh rupees. Although the exact date of launch is not known, it is said that the car could hit the roads any time during September to October this year. In fact, the global debut of the car was in India on August 20, 2015.

As the Kwid will measure lower than four meters in length, it is eligible for excise duty cuts. Industry observers are of the opinion that the new car would create a new segment – mini crossover – in India and would eat into the shares of Ford EcoSport. Kwid is definitely going to give the EcoSport a run for its money, as the former will be much more affordable than the latter. It is said that the Kwid would be offered in both four-door configuration and two-door configuration in India.

Renault Kwid looks attractive and peppy on the exterior. Inputs from India as well as the global headquarters at France went into designing this small car. Hence, it looks like a futuristic vehicle with an off-road style befitting an SUV or a crossover.

The diesel engine of Kwid might come with two engine powers – a 1.5-litre Dci, 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine powering the Duster with powers of 110 PS and 85 PS and 110PS. The petrol mill on duty will be the one jointly developed with Nissan, offering a maximum power of 70 PS. This car will be sufficiently powerful to take on some of the compact crossovers in India.

Once launched, the Kwid will be positioned below the Duster, it would look to take on the Ford EcoSport directly, and the cars like Maruti Alto 800 and Hyundai Eon indirectly. For Information on new bikes visit : BikePortal.
