2015 is indeed an exciting year for the web development industry and many of last year’s predictions are beginning to come to fruition. With new and more powerful development tools and more innovative technologies, the leaps web developers are taking in terms of web design and functionalities are not surprising. The following are some top trends now evident in the web development world as well as some predictions that are yet to be realized soon:

  • Motion UI – strong visual feedback can be achieved with animation, thus the strong inclination of developers towards motion UI. Along with this, Google’s Material Design is also an emerging trend that is increasingly being used by newly updated sites.
  • Greater demand for responsive designs – as wearable technology rise to popularity, expect unique design challenges that devices like Oculus Rift, Google Glass, and the Apple Watch present. Web designs struggling to come with multiple screen sizes have a lot of catching up to do in terms of responsive design. It is best to use a design framework that caters to the needs and biases of different platforms, ranging from traditional computers to mobile devices, and today’s emerging wearable gadgets.
  • The move to Node.js – a shift in web app development has long been forecasted as many switch to Node.js and others to JavaScript server-side frameworks. Development teams are also moving towards single language usage on different web projects, and Node is playing a big part in pushing the transition along.
  • Web UI components – ReactJS and Polymer are growing in popularity as web developers take the direction of more reusable and dynamic web app components. There are many ReactJS libraries that are framework agnostic and utilize new technologies

to build user interfaces more quickly. The Polymer project, on the other hand, offers a larger framework that allows users to create client-side applications that incorporate mobile-ready designs.

  • New JavaScript capabilities and features – with many new emerging languages and technologies, JavaScript remains strong and is in fact still a leading innovator when it comes to programming languages. Some relatively new JavaScript features every web developer should be familiar with include WebGL 3D, which allows websites to cope with increasing browser speed and capabilities, HTML5 JavaScript APIs, which increases support in Android and iOS browsers, Server Worker magic, which allows offline web application use, and Object Observe, to revolutionize 2-way data binding.
