Risks every freelancer deals with
Author: Flexi Gurus
May it be freelance marketing consultant or a content writer, every freelancer has to take certain risks in his job. Some such risks are listed below:
- Financial security - Most companies and firms who hire freelancers in India have a fixed pay grade for them according to the quantum of work they do for such a company. This, when looked at from the perspective of a freelancer, makes it clear that there is no financial security for him. On the days when he gets to do more work, he earns more money, and on the days there is no work allotted to him by the firm, he earns nothing at all. This makes it very tough for him to continue freelancing for a long term.
- Fluctuating workload: The work given by the hiring firms and companies to the freelancer can be pretty unstable and fluctuating. Reiterating the fact already mentioned, there are days when a freelancer is overburdened with workload and there are days when he is totally free. This makes it difficult for him to plan out the hours of his work and ends up with him shuttling between his work and his personal life.
- Connections in the field: Even though prima facie it may look like a freelancer has an opportunity to make much more contacts than a person working for a firm, this is not the reality. A freelancer generally works by himself, remotely connected with the firm or company he is working for. Hence, the only interaction he has with anyone is the company which has hired such freelancers is through the internet or phone. There is very less opportunity for him to make real connections in the field.
- Employee benefits: Most companies are obligated to provide certain social security benefits to the permanent employees working in their offices. However, for a freelancer, there is no such obligation. Hence, the freelancer is devoid of any such benefits.
- Unlimited responsibility: Responsibility of the freelancer is unlimited, as far as his work goes. While in a normal company, such responsibility is divided among various officers, the freelancer works alone and hence carries all the burden on his own shoulders.
However big the risks may be, flexiport tries to mitigate them to the best possible extent. Flexiport makes sure that every freelancer gets to directly contact the employer and negotiate the terms with him before getting hired, which gives him an opportunity to eradicate the above mentioned risks.
