Hijama Methods and BenefitsThe act of perfoming Hijama is a Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad Peace Upon Him and it is extensivly reported in a wide collection of authentic ahadith. Its practice is strongly recomened and emphasized in a number of narations. The practice of Hijama forms an integral part of Islamic Prophetic Medicine.

Hijama was a common practice of the Prophet Muhammad?????????????? and his companions for the treatment of a range of ailments as well as a form of body maininance and health promotion.

Types of Hijama:

1-Wet Method:

it is done by extracting blood by make small cuts in certain areas of the body.Some explain the therapeutic effect of hijama that the corrupted blood is eliminated from the body and this blood carry old red blood cells, free radicals and toxins. this blood accumulate and settle in certain areas of body in the top parts of back and this areas charactarized by weak circulation and slowness of blood movement so by eliminating it, it leads to purifying the blood pathway and increase circulation and promote synthesis of new red blood cells to make the blood more healthy.

2-Dry Hijama:

Similar to Wet method but without skin cuts and the blood not extracted in it but it changes the internal and external pressure.

When should one perform Hijama Therapy?

It is recommended that Hijama be practised on the ‘odd’ days of the Lunar Calendar. Further to this, the specifically prescribed days are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. The optimum Sunnah days to perform Hijama Therapy are the 17th, 19th and 21st days of the Lunar Calendar providing these days coincide with Monday, Tuesday or Thursday. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) advised against practicing Hijama on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and very strongly advised against practicing Hijama on Wednesdays.

Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger (saw) said, "Hijama on an empty stomach is best. In it is a cure and a Blessing. It improves the intellect and the memory. So use Hijama with the Blessing of Allah on Thursday. Keep away from Hijama on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday to be safe. Perform hijama on Monday and Tuesday for it is the day that Allah (swt) saved Ayub from the trial. He was inflicted with the trial on Wednesday. You will not find leprosy except (by having Hijama) on Wednesday or Wednesday night." [Sahih Sunan ibn Maajah (3487)

Benefits of Hijama:

  3. increase nerve respons and make the brain more active.
  4. elimination of toxins and free radicals which present in blood accumulations between skin and muscles.
