Discover Exciting Historic Remains in Menorca

Menorca is an ancient island literally bursting with historic sites of interest. There are ancient stone remains all over the place, and you'll be able to see many of them as you drive around on your holiday. Some date back to the end of the Bronze Age, and others date back over two millennia.

Torre d'en Galmés

Torre d'en Galmés is located in Alaior, and you will find it on the Son Bou road. This is what is known as a Talayotic town - the talayots you will see here are ancient stone structures. It was tactically built on top of a hill, which means you will have a little walk to reach it, but once you arrive the views are well worth it. The town dates back to 1400 BC, although more recent remains have also been found here. It is open all year round, and there is a small admission fee on most days.

Naveta des Tudons

This is a very important ancient site in Menorca, and one of the most popular historic attractions for people booking villas in Spain. In fact, it is the oldest roofed building to be found in the whole of Spain. A naveta is a burial site, and when this site was excavated back in the 1950s, 100 corpses were found here. You can find it just outside of Ciutadella on the Ciutadella road, and it is open all year. During the summer months you can even enjoy a guided tour.

Trepuco Village

The remains of this ancient village are located near Mahón, so try to visit it if you stay near the town when you book your villas in Spain. It used to have city walls, however not many remain now. You will find a large talayot here that is well worth a look.

Torralba d’en Salord

This prehistoric town dates back to 1000 BC. There are two talayots remaining here, as well as a number of excavated caves and the ruins of various buildings. It is located near to Alaior and you can find it on the Calan Porter road.
