Sometimes, just knowing the cause of a sinus problem will help to stop or avoid exposure in the future. I will mention here only five reasons that you may or may not know.

  1. Sinus infections: In recent studies, it was found that most sinus infections are caused by a fungus. For many years they were thought to bacterial or viral nature, but studies have shown that a small percentage of them are.
  2. Exposure to the droppings of dust mites: Dust mites are tiny creatures that are too small for you to see. They like to hang out on the beds and mattresses load so that it can actually weigh more after a few years of use that is claimed. Mite droppings are the culprit and it takes a thorough HEPA vacuuming of your carpets and wash in hot water to eliminate most of them. To get rid of them all and avoid problems in the future, you will have to avoid the allergens, covered zipper for your pillows and mattresses to keep dust mites. Some people even remove the carpet in the room. You will have to do an allergy test to dust mites to determine their cause.
  3. Cigarette smoke: Smoke inhalation, either as a smoker yourself, or secondhand smoke can cause havoc with your sinuses and cause the lining cavities become inflamed, causing sinusitis. Avoid breathing smoke at all costs. Secondly, any other type of smoke from fire extinguishers, forest fires, etc. can be an important source of sinus problems.
  4. Dust: Digging through old boxes of files or household items or stirring old dust in any households area can raise dust and spread in the air. Dust can enter the sinuses and reducing passages to swell or cause the lock and start a sinus infection. Use a mask to help limit their exposure to this dust.
  5. Smoggy conditions or contaminated outdoor air: Be aware of reports on air quality in the local news, if you are struggling with sinusitis. With a short walk around the neighborhood block or open windows in your home, can expose you to air pollution. Keep your home and car windows closed.

These are just some of the causes of sinus infections and other sinus conditions. Once you learn the cause of your sinus, you will know once and for all how to prevent sinus symptoms from turning into full blown sinus infections.
