Watch the video of flash mob dance surprise at teacher's wedding
A teacher from Mayfield had arranged an unusual "something borrowed" for her wedding on Saturday – by bringing in seven of her pupils to perform a surprise dance routine with her at her evening reception.
Katie Layden, who has now become Mrs Russell, had secretly organised seven year 11, 12 and 13 pupils to make an appearance after she and her husband Karl tied the knot at St John the Baptist Church in Church Lane.
Katie, who teaches dance at St Benedict Catholic Academy School in Derby, says the students wanted to be part of her special day and suggested they performed the routine with her at her reception in Weston Hall, Stafford.
She said: "The pupils had cooked this up among themselves but could not do it without involving me.
"They had previously joked about wanting to come to the wedding for several weeks beforehand, as pupils usually do, but I did not take it seriously.
"So, when they suggested an extra practice during the half-term holiday, I thought it was for their forthcoming GCSE and A-level exams.
"I was really surprised when they turned up at school last week and told me their idea for dancing at the wedding. Our head teacher agreed it could happen and their parents were very excited too. So we practised and kept everything a surprise."
The pupils travelled to the venue in a minibus in time for their surprise appearance at 9pm.

No-one was any the wiser about what was going to happen and so, when we hit the dance floor together, all the guests began cheering wildly.
"We danced to a medley of four songs including my favourite, Easy Love by Sigala featuring the Jackson Five ABC remix, which was a reminder of the school's year 11 prom as well.
"It was such an emotional moment for everyone and all my guests know how much my pupils mean to me, so they were very happy as well."
After the dance and some food from the buffet, the seven pupils climbed back into the minibus and returned to Derby.
Katie said: "I think people thought I would do some special dancing in the evening because I just love to dance but, when I didn't do anything out of the ordinary for the first dance with Karl, who hates dancing, I think they forgot about it.
"So they were even more surprised when I danced a well-rehearsed routine with the pupils.
"By the end, I was so emotional I was crying and Karl loved it too because it took attention away from him."
It was back to work this week for Katie but the couple plan to honeymoon over Christmas, when they will be off to New York.
