Is the Subaru Liberty 2015 a Good Golf Weekender Vehicle?
The Subaru Liberty Wagon was a fantastic vehicle for a weekend of Golfing. It had a roomy cabin, plenty of boot space for your luggage and a few sets of clubs. The wagon was also great to drive and wouldn’t look out of place parked up at even an exclusive course. However, the Liberty Wagon has been discontinued now and it begs the question does Subaru have a replacement? The new Subaru Liberty 2015 is a sedan, but can it fill the role of a good Golf weekender vehicle?
Comfortable Cabin Space
The Liberty is a four-door sedan with five seats, but can it carry five fully grown adults to the golf course? The answer is yes, the rear seats are a little snug with three adults sitting there, but space isn’t oppressively small. The seats are comfortable, there are thick padded armrests, and there is plenty of leg and headroom. Further comfort is provided via a sunroof, dual-zone climate control and heated front seats. Arriving safely at the course is aided with the EyeSight camera monitoring system which can help to avoid collisions and provides emergency automatic braking. Adaptive cruise control and lane departure warnings make safe cruising on longer journeys a breeze.
Adequate Luggage Space
This is a very high priority for the dedicated golfer that wants to ferry themselves and friends to the course or hotel. The Liberty can seat five people so how much can be fitted into the boot? Of course, available space in the Subaru Liberty 2015 is smaller than the old wagon model, but it is still quite useful. There is a total of 490 Litres of space available which is actually 14 Litres more than the outgoing 2014 sedan. Talking about litres of space can be useful to some people, but many would prefer a more practical example. This boot can easily accept five golf bags as the boot is quite deep. There is, however, a caveat and that is that the boot opening is quite narrow. This means that each set of clubs has to be carefully placed in one after the other and manoeuvred into place.
Overall Impressions
If you’re wondering about keeping up with your fellow club members then I can put your mind at rest. The Subaru Liberty is a bit of a stunner that would look at home equally at the course or parked up at work. The styling is bang up to date and there is plenty to keep you happy under the hood. The driving experience is enjoyable and Subaru have decreased the noise levels in the cabin making gentle ribbing about the round just played entirely possible even at high speeds.
