Centrifugal / Radial Fans for Industrial Applications

Centrifugal / Radial fans are machines whose primary function is to enable movement of large flow of gas or air for providing process relief in industrial units. These fans are specifically designed and built to operate at high or low temperatures, corrosive gases, acidic fumes etc., and are capable to handle different types of gases in any process plants. These fans find applications in several process plants as below:

Cement Plants

Centrifugal / Radial Fans in a Cement plant play a very important role in different phases of the cement production right from the raw grinding to Cement production. Fans are used in raw mills for raw material preparation, filter systems for removing waste gases and also for re-circulation of air. High pressure fans find applications in the blending and storage area, and efficient conveying of raw materials, additives and chemicals that are used in the Cement making processes.

The hot gases from the Cement Kilns and pre-heaters are transported through the pre-heater fans, which operate at high temperatures, sometimes upto 350º to 400º C. In the cement grinding mill, separator fans find extensive applications and handle dirty gases, due to nature of the process. There are several heavy duty fans that are required for the movement of air in a Cement plant.

Wear resistance characteristics and high degree of reliability are basic requirements of Centrifugal / Radial fans used in the Cement plant.

Steel Plants

Wide range of fans either Centrifugal / Radial or Axial fans are used in the steel industry and the conditions of operation of these heavy duty fans are also extreme. In steel production, fans are used in grinding of raw materials, de-dusting, sintering etc., These fans handle not only very abrasive dusty materials, but also high temperatures and are lifeline of the Steel production.

Power station fans

The power station boilers require fans in front of the boilers like the FD Fans (Force draft), exit of the boilers like the ID Fans (Induced draft), PA Fans (Primary Air) and also SA Fans (Secondary Air) Fans. These fans are again lifeline for the smooth and efficient operation of the boiler and ensure continuous production of power. Some of these fans like ID Fans handle extremely abrasive cases and also operate at high temperatures as well.

Special materials of construction are used for the fans in the Power station boilers. Large power station boilers beyond 500 MW and above use Auto Variable Pitch Axial Flow Fans and the plants below 500 MW utilize the Centrifugal / Radial fans.

Chemical industry

Centrifugal / Radial fans in chemical industries must meet the norms that ensure optimum safety. Heavy duty fans are used in chemical industries to exhaust corrosive, high temperature or hazardous gasses from the plant.

Paper and pulp applications

Wood and paper industry mostly uses fans to dry the material before it is sent further into the process. Fans are used to dry the paper which continuously runs on the rolls at certain speed which usually depends on the type of paper to be produced.

Textile

In textile industry both axial and centrifugal fans find their applications. For drying, low pressure centrifugal fans are used with a double inlet type execution. While, an axial fan helps to remove contaminated air from inside the plant.

Food industry

In food industry, fans are required for drying out the moisture content from the raw food materials. Industrial fans for this industry are usually made up of less corrosive material.

Glass industry

In glass industry, centrifugal fans are used at the very beginning of the process for cooling out the oven. For example, high pressure fan is installed to let in the fresh air into the oven for complete combustion; A high temperature fan is used in draining hot gases from the oven; Re-circulating fan is fitted inside oven to maintain consistent temperature.

In each industry fans play an important role and multiple number of fans are to installed specific to the industry process. They remain the important machines at the heart of smooth running of a factory. They will help to keep the environment as well the worker safe.
