When you design landing pages, you may use different approaches towards attaining the same target. Some may concentrate on the logo colors and come up with a design inspired by those colors. Some may listen to their heart and design what they feel is good! A few others use color theory, or the psychology of color when they design landing pages. The latter is the best approach towards attaining that goal. Below are two principles which we should use, of to make our designs more appealing.

1. Color Contrast and Clarity

Having a layout in contrasting colors will facilitate better readability. It could be a white background and black text or any light background with dark colored text. You may even make use of the "Color Wheel", from which you may choose your own set of background and foreground colors.

2. Color Associations and their Impact

Colors are associated with emotions. Each color evokes a different response. One has to make the best use of this principle in order to have the design generate more impact on a target audience.

Red: It is a color which stands for excitement, urgency, passion, urge, strength and rebellion. It also stands for warmth.

Orange: Orange is associated with security, food and drink. It also signifies the call to action.

Yellow: This stands for happiness, hope, energy. It is also related to emotions, friendliness, and self esteem and creativity. It is also a highly visible color and therefore used in pedestrian crossings.

Green: It stands for health and refreshment. It also has a calming effect on the eye of the beholder. Green is also associated with nature.

Blue: It stands for loyalty, sincerity, and trustworthiness. It is also a peaceful, serene and mentally calming color.

Pink: This is a very soothing color; it also denotes youth, warmth, caring and feminity.

There are some companies who have made best use of simple color principles to generate maximum impact on their intended audience.

Apple.com/iPhone

Apple has the best website in terms of simplicity. It is a typical black text on white background design, which looks simple. It had a lot of white space in which its different products like iPhone, iPad, watch etc. The extra white space exudes sophistication and class, and the products stand out very well against the light background.

Apple.com/QuickTime

QuickTime has a flawless design, and has a download button on the left of the landing page. The company doesn’t want users to read through volumes of text, as everyone knows about QuickTime and are visiting the page simply because they want to download it. Thus, instead of making the users read volumes of text over and over again, they just provide the download button along with the system requirement.
