Affordable Living
Fully research the cost and benefits of assisted living facilities.
It’s time to check out assisted living costs for Grandma. She is not getting along as well as she has in the past. She used to be able to cook and clean and even drive her car. Lately, though, she has stopped driving and only eats a full meal if someone brings her food. Mom and I talked and we decided that it’s time to see about assisted living. There are many wonderful assisted living homes for grandma and each one offers its own great amenities. We would want grandma to be able to socialize with other residents especially at meal time. Grandma needs to talk to people while she eats a healthy meal. We also would like her to be able to go outside and walk or sit in the sun. One important feature is safety. We need to know that grandma will be safe in all areas of the home from outside, to her room, and in the dining room. Along that area, I’d like to know how many staff members will be on shift throughout the night and how will grandma get her medication.
These are all very important things to remember while we are checking out the cost of assisted living. Another important thing is insurance. The assisted living should accept grandma’s insurance to help offset the cost. In addition, the facility should not use up all of her savings account money with monthly expenses. When we find the right place for grandma it will be one that she can afford.
Mom and I decide to visit a few homes to see how they are run, if they are clean, and if the residents are happy. In addition, we take notes on the friendliness of the staff, the taste of the food, and the nutritional value of the food. We watch the security of the indoor and outdoor space. We are able to sit down with some of the residence residents and share a meal. After the meal we participate in games, play cards, crafts, and are even invited to stay for an evening movie. With all of these activities mom and I believe we have found an affordable assisted living facility that grandma will be happy, healthy, and safe in.
While checking out assisted living costs, my mom and I find a great place for grandma to live. The home is a place where she will feel like she is home. It is not like a hospital at all. She will be able to have her meals family style when she can interact with other residence residents. On Fridays families are invited to watch a movie and have popcorn with their loved one. On Sunday’s religious services are offered and every day grandma can go outside and walk around the courtyard. We are confident that grandma can afford this new assisted living facility and begin the paperwork to start her move.
