Fiat Punto Evo – Autoportal India on the best selling hatch from Fiat
Fiat had enjoyed unparalleled consumer preference for a long time in India, until the Marutis and Hyundais took over the market. All those with a sweet memory of the iconic Premier Padmini or the Fiat, as it was known in those days, were waiting for their favourite maker to introduce a brand new car in the country. When the Punto and Linea debuted in India, the love for Fiat was rekindled and people showed amazing support to these cars. But, a few of them was disappointed with certain parameters of the hatch, especially its low ground clearance and the like. However, Fiat acted quickly and resolved the problem in the next edition of the car, the Punto Evo. The major distinguishing features of the Evo are clear reindeer headlamps, follow me headlamps and the rear AC vents, which were not available in the earlier editions.
The Punto Evo is priced between 4.99 and 7.71 lakh rupees. Fiat has priced the car affordably and has topped it with great performance and features.
The Fiat Punto EVO is sold in both petrol and diesel trims. The petrol variants offer the choice of two different engine options as the base and mid-level variants come with a lighter engine while the top-end variant is equipped with a heavier and powerful engine. The base variants are equipped with a 1.2L Fully Integrated Robotized Engine (FIRE) with SOHC valve configuration. This 1172cc, four-cylinder, 8V, MPFI engine produces a maximum power of 67 bhp and a peak torque of 96 Nm. It comes mated with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Alternatively, the top-end variant is equipped with a 1.4L FIRE engine with DOHC valve configuration. This 1368 cc, four-cylinder, 16V engine is capable of delivering 88.7 bhp at power and 115 Nm torque. This engine is also mated to a five-speed manual transmission gearbox.
The diesel Punto Evo runs on the 1.3L Multi jet diesel (MJD), which is fine-tuned to get two different power outputs. The base and mid variants come with a 16V, DOHC, four-cylinder motor capable of producing a power of 74.9 bhp and a peak torque of 197 Nm. The top-end variant offers a higher power output of 88.7 bhp and a peak torque performance of 209 Nm. All the variants come with five-speed manual gearbox. The mileage offered by the car is between 14.4 and 21.2 kmpl.
The Evo has everything right, except the fact that it has missed the possibilities offered by an auto gear variant, which is in high demand at present.
