CMMI Maturity level 3 Certification – An Improvement Process for Software Industries

CMMI is a software development process improvement approach that has become the standard for measuring the ability of an organization to apply a method based on the software development process. This approach integrates the entire spectrum of software development, including software engineering, testing and project management. CMMI helps integrate traditionally separate organizational functions, objectives and process improvement overall priorities, provide guidance for quality processes, and provide a point of reference for the evaluation of current processes.

CMMI Level 3 Certification represents an important step in the commitment to provide quality products to global clients. As software becomes the essential basic tool for organizations to achieve their financial and operational objectives, the need to provide software capable of meeting the rigorous requirements that are requested led to these product development methodologies. At maturity CMMI Level 3 certification, an organization has achieved all the specific and generic goals of the process areas assigned to maturity levels 3. CMMI is a framework for software process improvement. CMMI is divided into maturity levels, then these maturity levels are divided into treatment processes and each process area is divided into specific practices.

At maturity level 3 of CMMI, processes are well characterized and understood, and are described in standards, procedures, tools and methods. A critical distinction between maturity level 2 and level 3 of maturity is the scope of standards, process descriptions and procedures. At maturity level 3, the standards, process descriptions and procedures for a project are tailored from the set of standard processes of the organization to respond to a particular project or organizational unit. The set of standard processes of organizing includes the processes discussed maturity level 2 and maturity level 3. Consequently, the processes are carried out through the organization are consistent except for the differences allowed by the directives sewing.

Another critical distinction is that at maturity level 3, processes are typically described more fully and more rigorously than at maturity 2. At maturity level 3, processes are managed more proactively using an understanding of the interrelationships between process activities and detailed measures of the process, its work products, and its services.
