How Do Laser Cutting Machines Work?
At present, over three thousand units of Laser Cutting Machines are installed around the globe every year. That sums of the usefulness and value that these machines command in industrial circles. Especially, in metal cutting industry, Laser Cutting Machines have become indispensable. There are a quite a few reasons behind that. High levels of precision, ease-of-operation, faster cutting, cost-efficiency, etc. are a few of them. Let’s get familiar with the operation of these machines.
How Do Laser Cutting Machines Work?
- The first requirement is to choose the image that you need to cut. The image can be from either camera or can be the image that you may have found online. The image is then, uploaded to the computer software that works with laser cutting machines. Mostly, laser cutting machines use CorelDraw software.
- The next requirement is to choose the material that laser cutting machine can work with. This can include wood, acrylic, glass, aluminum and laser-safe plastic.
- Before starting to cut, make sure that the lens is clean. For this, remove the screws beneath the screwdriver and check the status of the lens. If in case cleaning is required, then clean the lens by rubbing alcohol on the lens’ surface with a cotton swab.
- Thereafter, turn on the laser machine and let it warm-up before start-up. After this, in your computer software program, go to “File” and then “Print”. Locate the preference menu in the software to choose the cutting method. Most laser machines use two methods- raster and vector. Raster is used to engrave and vector is used to cut out pieces.
- It is also important to set cutting line as per the material chosen. Wider lines can take more time to cut. Speed of cutting should also be adjusted according to the material. Once all these options have been selected, you can go for final cutting.
Points To Consider While Laser Cutting
- Laser power has to be adjusted as per the type and thickness of material.
- Cutting gas should also be chosen as per the material to be cut. For example, wood must not be cut with oxygen as it could catch fire.
- Also, right nozzle has to be selected. For example, high pressure cutting requires nozzle with a bigger hole.
- Nozzle distance is equally important. Nozzle should be held at position such that it does not touch the workpiece.
