Your Guide to Comparing Air Conditioning Prices

Author: Brandon Smith

If you have decided to upgrade or install air conditioning, Perth prices can be a little confusing to assess. When you begin getting quotes for air conditioners, the prices can vary a great deal. Although your budget is important, as with any major purchase, cheaper isn’t always better. This means that you need to assess the quotes and prices to decide which can deliver the best value.

Compare Like for Like:

The main reason why there is a disparity in quote prices is because of the variations in equipment. You need to check the energy efficiency and capacity of the systems to compare the quotes as a like for like scenario. Some brands have a more established reputation, so you should expect to pay a little more. For example, if you were car shopping you wouldn’t expect a BMW to cost the same as a Nissan. You also need to recognise that different types of system will have different price tags. Just like our previous example, comparing a ducted evaporative system with a basic wall unit, is like comparing a BMW X5 with a Nissan Micra.

Is the Brand Listed:

Some air conditioner installers use one or two brands exclusively. These are usually leading brands that tend to be more expensive, but offer greater longevity and more extensive support. If the brand name is not listed in the quote, you need to obtain more details to ensure that you can accurately compare your quotes. You may find that some quotes appear higher, but it is because the company exclusively uses branded appliances and materials. This means that while you are paying more, you will have a more comprehensive warranty for three, five or even ten years.

Are All Electrical Works Included in the Quote?

Many people assume that a quote is "all inclusive" and later find that crucial aspects such as mains power provision and other essential electrical works are not included. A good company will detail exactly what is and is not included in the quote. You should also feel comfortable asking if there would be any additional costs or charges.

Does the Company Have Experience and Expertise?

Another reason for the disparity in quotes is the experience and expertise of the company. While you may find very capable single person new operations, they do tend to be more of a risk. You need to consider that your installer is likely to be the first point of contact in the event of a problem with the equipment during the warranty period. If your one person company has ceased trading, you can still obtain manufacturer support, but it is more time consuming and frustrating. You may find that the reassurance and confidence offered with an established and experienced specialist are well worth the additional initial cost.
