Bladeless Eye Surgery: Customises the corneal flap in an advanced and better way
Your eyes are essential to trust anyone. That’s the reason Bladeless Lasik Eye Surgery is available using Intralase laser. In this process, a femto second laser is usually used to create hinged flap on the surface of an eye.
Bladeless Eye Surgery uses two different types of lasers:
- Femto second laser: This laser helps in precisely directing laser energy in order to create a hinged flap, thin, which is temporarily lifted from cornea or eye’s surface.
- Excimer laser: This laser’s energy is applied to newly exposed eye surface and then the tissue is removed precisely to alter shape of the cornea.
Types of bladeless Lasik surgery
Intralase laser is the first femto second laser which is approved by FDA in 2001 for bladeless Lasik. It introduced several models of laser with advanced features. This can be used also in combination with other lasers for bladeless Lasik procedures.
Few other bladeless laser systems are even entering worldwide which includes:
- Femtec: This laser is from 20/10 Perfect Vision and in 2004 it received FDA clearance. It can also be combined with Excimer approved laser system for a bladeless Lasik procedure.
- VisuMax: It got approved by FDA in 2007, with help of Carl Zeiss Meditec laser; it can also be typically combined for Bladeless Eye Surgery.
- ZLasik: Zeimer Ophthalmic Systems got approved from FDA in March 2008 for Ziemer Femto LDV, portable femto second laser. It is attached to a movable form and even can be combined with an approved laser system in order to create a flap required for bladeless Lasik.
How Bladeless Lasik Eye Surgery does works?
All the TLC surgeons are now offering customisation for you in entire process of Lasik procedure.
- A custom diagnosis (before procedure)
- Custom corneal flap
- Custom vision treatment
In Bladeless Eye Surgery, Computer software is generally used by a Lasik surgeon to guide laser beam, which then applies a series of minute bubbles within cornea’s central layer. Now, the resulting flap for cornea is created at certain precise diameter and depth which is pre-determined by a surgeon.
A small tissue section of flap’s one edge is left uncut which occurs with mechanical microkeratome, forming hinge which allows the Lasik surgeon to fold back the flap so that cornea can be accessed and thus reshaped for vision corrections, if any.
As the name implies, in Bladeless Lasik Eye Surgery no blades are used. This advanced procedure is been used by more than 14 million Lasik surgeons worldwide.
