The term indie rock ideally comes from "independent," which illustrates usually low budget labels released with a do-it-yourself attitude for all the rock bands and genre artists involved. This was a technical definition perhaps and the era of rock music and indie rock has been about so much more since ages. There is a famous saying in the United States that all sort of Indie Rock music is a variety of Alternative rock but on the other hand not all the Alternative rock can be considered as Indie. Now what that actually means is that some bands like Kings of Leon can be put as both Indie and Alternative but having said that Alternative rock bands like Linkin Park can never be termed as Indie rock bands.

If we talk a little bit about style, then the rock music and indie rock has an influential styling with an extremely diverse mix of punk, psychedelia, post-punk and country. However, the terms - alternative rock and indie rock were used reciprocally in the 1980s, but later quite a lot of alternative rock bands followed Nirvana into the popular music world in the early 1990s. Esthetically speaking, indie rock music is distinguished as keeping a proper balance of pop openness with the rock genre, noise, experimentation with different music formulae, putting sensitive lyrics, beautifully masked by sardonic posturing.

Before two decades, a gang of geeky American boys started some freaky thing on computers by messing up their guitars to generate a kind of music. These generation kids used the social media for spreading their piece of music. And then within the heart of doing something cheeky, a kind of music was created that you would hear on radio or on social networks. It came over the edge quite soon, growing in popularity and owing some of punk rock’s velocity and snicker. Truly the entire spirit was amazing and experimental, as if all the conventional rules and paradigms changed overnight.

Then, came the era of acoustic ragged guitar, electric guitar riffs, vicious decibel tunes, and capricious song structures.. Some later found these sounds to be loud, distorted and percussively headlong. It is noticeable to see that how indie rock music culture was built in the 1980s, and was persistently transformed through the 1990s.The entire ideation was that everyone shall get an opportunity to have a rock band on same platform, where one can learn to play, make rock videos, or possibly record their own production tape to take the show on the road.

The popularity of Indie rock music can be seen from the bands like Imagine Dragons, Mumford and Sons, Arcade Fire, Florence, Foster the People and the Machine. An interesting part is that the popularity of this form of music can be seen in the Grammys. Last but not the least, the biggest popularity of rock music and of course, Indie rock music is seen on television and now shooting up significantly by new rock music talent hunt shows.
