Choosing The Candidate For Democratic Party In New York 12th Congressional District

Author: Mike Gallagher

Primaries for the New York 13th Congressional district are fast approaching and the date has been fixed to the 24th of June this year. The uniqueness of the electoral system in world’s largest democracy has come to play as the system is different from most other countries. The leading political parties in the country like Democrats and Republicans decide their congressional candidates for main elections through primaries in different districts in the state concerned and thereafter the final list of candidates is prepared. The same principle is now also applied in case of the New York 13th Congressional District.

Predominantly Democratic District

One of the unique features of American elections is that there are some districts that are predominantly democrat in nature whereas there are also some that are republican in nature. Following the trend the 13th Congressional District is also having some predominantly democratic flavor. For years together the district has been returning the democratic candidates to the house though on a few occasions they have overcome the favor for democrats and have given the votes to their republican contestants.

Candidates with Remarkable Background

There are some candidates who have strong and remarkable background. One of them is Keith Wright running for Congress. Another such candidate is Clyde Williams Congress 2016. There are also many others like Adriano Espillat and Mike Walrond those were close runners to sitting candidate Charles Rangel. It is another thing that they were not able to beat Charles Rangel who was at the helm of affairs for over four decades at a stretch. The avenue has opened up for the leading candidates now to try their lucks all over again in the field of democratic primaries and to brace up for the ultimate contest in the main elections in November.

Voters that Matter Most in the Primaries

There are certain sectors that matter most in the upcoming primaries in the 13h NT district as they constitute large part of the electorate. Candidates aspiring to get elected cannot ignore them. Canidates like Keith Wright running for Congress and others should take a lesson from what happened to Adriano Espillat during the 2012 elections when he lost it to Charles Rangel. One of the reasons was that Espillat was not able to win over the confidence of the electorate as the issues raised by him were not as close to their hearts as those raised by Charles Rangel. Issues and electorate are both important for winning the race because it is the issues that attract the voters most.

That is also why newer candidates like Mike Gallagher are coming up with burning issues and the subjects that are most pertinent for the electors in the 13th NY district. Some of the candidates stressed the importance of civic engagement and that people should take advantage of their rights to vote. Some of the candidates are more familiar with these and they are nearer to the hearts of the electors. It only remains to be seen who comes out winner in the 24th June primaries at the end of it.
