Since the beginning of time, people have been searching for the happiest places on earth.  Here are four opponents in different countries.  There are different reasons for making the residents so delighted to be living where they do.  However, the elements are not what you think they would be such as wealth or intellectual.  Considered to be top propriety to these people are their social lives, health and overall wellbeing.  So if you’re looking for a joyful place to go on your next vacation, consider some or all of the following four destinations.

With one of the highest population densities in the world and well known for being workaholics, it is hard to picture the city of Singapore as being one of the happiest populated places on earth.  The community of 5.1 million was once surveyed and 95% of the members consider themselves to be either very happy or quite happy.  How many people can say that in their town?  Singapore also received high marks for their cleanliness and police helpfulness which is a relief while being in a foreign country.

The residents of Arhus, Denmark cheerfully part with 68% of their income in taxes; however, in return, they receive free healthcare, daycare and one of the best educational systems out there.  The city of 300, 000 has a vibrant cultural scene, a diverse number of religions represented which indicates this is full of equality (the range in incomes is narrow), as well as easy access to the nearby sea and surrounding countryside, make Arhus seem more like a small town.

According to a study done in 2008, people who live in San Luis Obispo, California are more likely than residents of other U.S. cities to smile, experience joy and is said to have an extremely low depression rate.  Some 64, 000 of the 260, 000 people in the greater metropolitan area, located halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco, volunteer at over 11, 000 non-profit organizations.  Commutes are a breeze here as it never takes more than 10 minutes to go to one place from the next.
