Exploring the Great Outdoors on Menorca

Author: Lisa Jeeves

No matter which side of Menorca you choose to explore, you are bound to experience some of this destination’s most breathtaking views, wildlife and lively natural atmosphere. This can be done by foot, bike, boat or even snorkelling! After a lazy morning relaxing in one of the private villas in Menorca, take the opportunity to venture out to the wilder part of the island to get up close and personal with this unique island.

Water sports galore

While relaxing in the sun at your choice of the private villas in Menorca can be a wonderful way to spend a holiday, it can be great fun to partake in some local water sports too. Several companies along the coast have a wide variety of great sporting equipment that you can rent or learn how to use, no matter your abilities. For instance, on the north side of the island Dia Complert has plenty of options to indulge your Mediterranean exploration, like a guided kayak tour or a speedboat ride. Take a boat cruise

In the spirit of nautical activity, keep up the theme with a relaxing boat tour around the coves and bays of the island. Sit back and enjoy the breeze in your hair while out on the water during a guided excursion. You'll learn about the history of the island along with interesting facts about the amazing underwater life. Younger people, especially, will delight in the glass bottom boat tours, allowing a fascinating, safe and dry look at the amazing marine life below. (These trips tend to be shorter and take place in the afternoon.) Other boating adventures tour the beaches of the south, concluding in the early afternoon with a wonderful late lunch of paella and tales of the day’s adventure. If you're experienced on the water you can rent craft and equipment yourself for sailing, speed boating and even jet skiing.

If you prefer to stay on dry land closer to the private villas in Menorca, there are plenty of jeep tours and other land-based ways of enjoying the sights.

Outdoors by day and night

One very special way to really appreciate the island is after the sun goes down. There are experienced local guides who can take you out on an evening tour to enjoy the wildlife under the cover of darkness. Some tours are led by torchlight along the beaches, making for a mysterious, eerie and unforgettable excursion.

Although the evening hours can make for some interesting photos, perhaps the more familiar vision of the island is by day. Stunning skies, azure seas and a lush interior all cry out to be captured in the landscape around the wonderful private villas in Menorca.
