Band of Brothers Ordinary Men Extraordinary Times

Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg- Two men that are responsible for an awesome series called ‘Band of Brothers’. And as awesome as these men are, this series is nowhere less. ‘Band of Brothers’ that talks about extraordinary men in ordinary times is one fabulous series that will blow your mind. More specifically, it’s a story about “E” Easy Company, 506th Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division from their initial training starting in 1942 to the end of the World War II. The Airborne Division is basically an active airborne infantry that excels in parachute assault operations into denied areas. This series has left no stones unturned in presenting even the minute details about the war, the training, the parachuting... everything.

And if you look at the ratings, 9.6 from IMDb say a lot about the excellence of the series. So, it’s a must-watch for those who are into periodic drama and are little bit interested in the World War history. This drama series will give you the snapshots of history like it happened. No doubt the production has taken care of all those effects- the sound of the planes, the parachuting or the thrill of the war. The actors are also in the character. Captain Sobel played by David Schwimmer in episode 1 is indeed a treat. He has done superb as a strict captain making his team work hard. Other than that the presence of actors like Scott Grimes, Matthew Leitch and Damien Lewis has indeed done a lot to the excellence of the plot.

Now talking about the interesting facts that surround this series... Well, there are many. The major thing is that almost all the main actors were cast because of their close physical resemblance to the real life soldiers they were portraying. Also one of the surprising facts is that a heavy day of filming required up to 14,000 rounds of ammunition. CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT?! One more thing that is of utter interest is that this 10-part miniseries features 500 speaking roles. Huge, right?! Well, not when you’d learn that around 700 authentic weapons and almost 400 rubber prop weapons were used in production. Now this one is huge... Isn’t it? Now the two things that will indeed blow your mind: A. With the budget of around $104 million, this was the most expensive drama ever made at that time. B. This series almost took 3 years in its making.

And true to the tagline ‘They depended on each other. And the world depended on them.’ this series showcases the exact emotion as it’s mentioned here. And to witness that emotion, don’t miss this Operation Overlord in ‘Band of Brothers’ ON HBO Hits, every Saturday at 10:55am.
