How The Pill Changes Your Health

Summary: Many reports suggest that bill control pills have links with blood clot and bone issues. Is there any truth in these claims, know here.

In a sensational finding it was claimed that women on low-dose oestrogen medication or using pills had lower spinal cord bone density by 6%. When asked for the details, researchers said, there is steadiness in levels of oestrogen on taking pills. This oestrogen is needed for bone growth and its steadiness is a problem for bone health. However they claimed that it is not known what happens when the intake of these pills is terminated. In short there can be side effects on bone growth on taking pills but these pills neither cause osteoporosis nor bone fractures.

Blood Clot

Another concern using these pills is the risk of blood clots. It is clinical proven that women using pills are at a higher risk of VTE or venous thromboembolism. However important point to consider is the risk entirely depends on the kind of pill you are using.

In a study it is found that women on older progesterone pills are three times less likely to develop VTEs or leg blood clots as compared to women using drospirenone pills that are new kind of artificial progesterone. But gynaecologists suggest that 3% is not such a high risk rate or bar someone from using these pills.

Pay attention if you are among those women who have a family history of blood clots or if you smoke. Using pills for such women is a strict no. Consult your doctor on the ingredients and their potential risks before taking any pill.

Cancer risk

Cancer connection of birth control pills is still a debatable topic. Artificial oestrogen might be an agent of breast cancer but the findings are ambiguous on these. A report in England Journal of Medicine claims that there is no effect of pills (old or new) on breast cancer while a Boston University report has totally opposite take on the issue. According to this report women taking pills are 65% higher risk of developing breast cancer due to oestrogen as compared to non pill takers.

The latest findings on the other side say that using pills result in reduced ovarian cancer risks by 50% and reduced risk of endometrial cancer by 40%.

Brain Booster

Whether pills can lead to enhanced brain functions is still under research. Some research found increased grey area in brain of pill users. But it is too early to establish any for sure result. Diet when using these pills is known to affect the working of brain in the long run.

The attraction factor

It is biologically established that women prefer guys who have a different immune system than theirs. However women on pills have an opposite attraction view and prefer guys with same immune system as theirs. The explanation for this change in attraction mechanism is due to ovulation halt. This halting mimics pregnancy that directs women to get more attractive towards supportive kin.

Therefore pills have effects on your health some good and a few not so good. Always take informed decision while using any pill.
