There are very few topics than food and nutrition that can generate more disagreement than discussion. It’s generally seen that people never reach any kind of agreement on what should and shouldn’t be eaten. For those contemplating an idea of weight loss in Mumbai, few nutrition facts can help them achieve the target with minimal fuss. Though, what is good nutrition can be a topic for a debate, there are some nutrition facts that actually most people will agree upon.
Top Nutrition Facts agreed by Most
Added Sugar is a Strict No
Most people believe sugar is bad as far as health is concerned. Some think sugar is nothing but empty calories, while others believe it’s a mean to kill people, i.e. leading to diseases. No doubt it’s true that added sugar contains empty calories; there aren’t any nutrients in it and if you consume too much of it than you’re likely to become deficient as you aren’t getting adequate foods that actually have nutrients in them. However, this is not the real danger with respect to the several risks such as cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes and obesity brought about by high consumption of sugar. Sugar contains high level of fructose which is metabolized strictly by the liver over time leading to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, insulin resistance, high cholesterol levels, etc.
Unhealthy Trans Fats must be avoided
Also known as hydrogenated oils, Trans Fats are made with a mixture of unsaturated fats with hydrogen gas at a high heat to make them look like saturated fats. These fats are primarily responsible for raising the bad cholesterol and lowering the good cholesterol level, abdominal obesity, inflammation and insulin resistance. One must avoid Trans Fats as much as possible in the long term as its consumption raises the risk of obesity, diabetes, heart disease, Alzheimer’s and many more diseases.
Include more vegetables in Diet
A debate on whether vegetables are good for health stands null. Vegetables are of course good for the body as they are rich in vitamins, minerals, fibre, antioxidants, etc. Most experts opine that eating vegetables is associated with enhanced health and a lower risk of disease.
Avoid Refined Carbohydrates
There are a lot of differing opinions about cards and fat. Some believe that fat is the root cause of all ill effects related to health, while others believe carbs are the one leading to obesity and other chronic diseases. However, what everyone will agree on is that refined carbohydrates are worse than unrefined ones. High carb foods such as grains contain some nutrients that can be beneficial; however, when they are processed most of the nutrients in it get removed thus leaving nothing but the huge amounts of easily digestible glucose. Consuming refined carbs will lead to rapid spears in blood sugar, followed by a surge of insulin in the blood which triggers fat storage and leads to insulin resistance and several diseases such as obesity and diabetes.
Eat more Unprocessed Food
Processed food is unhealthy. The health of the people is deteriorating as the food system has become more industrialized. During food processing, several of the beneficial nutrients in the food get removed. Moreover, not only health nutrients such as fibre are removed but harmful ingredients such as trans fats, sugar and refined wheat are also added in the processed food. Further, several artificial chemicals get added to processed foods that aren’t safe for long term human consumption.
What to eat and what not to is completely an individual’s choice, however, if you are health and fitness conscious and don’t know what’s the right food to eat then taking an expert nutritionist’s help is always a wise idea.
