Make Your Picture Perfect by Purchasing Graceful Photo Mounts

Purchasing graceful photo mounts is a great way to make your pictures perfect. These mounts make your photographs look beautiful and give them a balance that is essential for any well-framed picture.

In earlier days, the framer used to ask the customer for the type and styles of mounts they needed for their photo. They then used the ones the clients liked and had chosen for their frames. However, nowadays with the growth of the internet, a lot more options are available than the smaller variety of mounts framers stocked in their stores. There are various online sites that sell mounts and you can do well to peruse their collection before deciding on the mounts you need for your photo frames.

Some of these websites have a very friendly user interface that let you select the colour, the type and the size of the mounts with only a few clicks of the mouse. They also give options on aspects such as the core which is the inner edge or the lining of the mount that is visible after you have framed the picture.

Selecting a graceful mount can be a bit confusing if you are not sure of certain matters. For instance,
  • Number of mounts

You may not have noticed, but a picture can have more than one mount or none at all. The common types of mounts are single mount and double mount. In the latter case, there are two layers of mounts, called the top mount and the bottom mount. The top mount is the one that appears the largest to the naked eye and stretches from the inner edge of the frame in the area where the picture will be framed. The bottom mount is the thin layer that appears at the edge where the top mount ends and stretches to cover the edge of the picture. These top and bottom mounts are so named because of their position relative to each other, i.e., the larger bottom one is wider and sits below the smaller top mount that is slightly thinner.

In most photos frames, a single mount does the trick but you may find it better to use double as they help give a sense of depth, especially if the outer (top) layer is lighter in colour than the inner (bottom) mount.

  • Colour of the mount(s)

The colour of the mount should bring out the beauty of the image. The tone you choose will depend on the colours in the photograph or picture. If you are planning to frame a photo with vibrant colours, then a pale or white mount will be better. If it is a landscape or a wide angle shot, then a double mount with a lighter tone to the top mount and a darker one for the bottom will be better than a single mount.

  • Width of the mount
As a general rule of thumb, a wider mount is better as it frames the photo well. A narrow mount will make the picture look odd.

Keep these simple rules in mind while choosing a mount and you will be able to easily select and buy a graceful mount for yourself.
