Fun on Water and Land: Activity Holidays for Families in Moliets

Author: Lisa Jeeves

Activity holidays for families are all about creating memories as a family that each of you will carry with you forever. At Moliets, on the southwest coast of France, there are so many fun-filled activities the only problem might be fitting them all in!

Set on the golden, dune-strewn beaches of Landes, backed by a vast National Park of pine forests, lakes and wetlands, the area around the resort is a natural playground for active families.

Activity Holidays for Families

My team and I work with a range of local suppliers and instructors to offer a variety of activities, from mountain biking through forest and paddle boarding on the calm waters of the lake to surfing on the waves of the Atlantic. We offer instruction for all levels, from beginners to experts, so whether you choose to try something new or hone your skills at an activity you already love, we have a team of people waiting to get you started.

Learn to Surf

The southwest coast is a mecca for surfers from across Europe thanks to the Atlantic rollers which come to shore near Moliets, and it’s a great place to learn to surf or improve your board skills. The beach at Moliets, with its gentler waves, is perfect for beginner surfers, while along the coast a little are the more dramatic rollers and tubes which draw in the serious surfers. Let our friends at the Maa Surf School tell you where the best waves are and help you get started, whatever level you’re at.

Out on the Lake

There are actually a series of lakes around Moliets, so make sure you and your family take time to visit at least one. Lake Leon is a short drive from Moliets and is one of the area’s largest lakes. Despite being a nature reserve there are still plenty of opportunities to have some family fun on the water with activities including paddle boarding, sailing, kayaking and fishing.

On Your Bike

Cycling is a great way to spend time together exploring the local area on activity holidays for families, and the network of off-road cycle routes which criss-cross the cool pine forests of Landes make it an exciting outing for all ages. Reluctant older teens, unimpressed by the beauty of the forest, may well be coaxed out to explore the cycle route down to the golden beach or around the resort itself.

Get Sporty With Tennis and Golf

If you’re up for a sporting challenge then why not try a family tournament of tennis or golf? Playing a sport together can be a great way to connect across generations. The 18-hole golf course at Moliets, La Forêt et L’Océan, has been voted one of Europe’s 25 most beautiful courses thanks to its breath-taking vistas across the Atlantic on one side and the forests of Landes on the other.

Other Local Activities

Beyond Moliets itself there are numerous activities for you and your family to enjoy, from horse riding on the beach or forest in Mimizan to a water park with a difference at Base de Pop on Lake Arroques. For a more gentle adventure you could even take the family on a gondolier ride through tropical forest at Courant d’Huchet.

If you’re playing with the idea of visiting Moliets with your tribe, I have first-hand experience with the area and its accommodation and activities. Get in touch, and I can put the perfect holiday together for you and your family.
