Joe Palermo has owned Palermo Realty Development for over 50 years in the Lake Charles area. His work in the community has set the stage for many new business developments to come in and thrive, providing more opportunity for people in the area. Palermo took chances in the 1960s that others wouldn’t, and as a result developed many different kinds of property in the area for residential and commercial use. Since he founded Palermo Realty Development, he has tried to expand his business holdings to other areas while still creating new opportunities for individuals and businesses in the Lake Charles community and beyond.
Joe Palermo founded Palermo Realty Development with a high school diploma near Lake Charles in 1963. He wouldn’t earn a Bachelor’s degree until 1973, when he graduated from McNeese State University a Business Administration major. Palermo was successful in the early days nonetheless, although if you ask him about it today, he’d almost assuredly give the credit to all those who helped him over the years. After graduating from McNeese State, Palermo grew his businesses and started helping the community even more.
Today, Joe Palermo is a benefactor for McNeese State, located in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He funds professorships for promising faculty to use to study special education techniques that could change the way the education system teaches students with special needs. Palermo considers his contributions part of his duty to the community that has helped him so much over the years.
Joe Palermo Lake Charles has since founded several other businesses in the Lake Charles area since Palermo Realty Development began operations over 50 years ago. After expanding his real estate development operations across state lines by founding Palvest, Inc. a commercial real estate development company that has developed commercial properties throughout Louisiana and Texas in 1967, Palermo founded Gum Cove Hunting Lodge in Hackberry, Louisiana, a local hunting and fishing ground that boasts teeming wildlife thanks to Palermo’s own engineered levee and lakes system designed to preserve wildlife populations on the 6000-acre property.
Joe Palermo still operates Gum Cove Hunting Lodge near Lake Charles and he still runs Jackpot Novelty, Inc., a video game business consulting firm working to help gaming video game locations manage their finances and facilitate customer service. He is also the co-owner of Bad Boy Enterprises, the manufacturer of a new line of electric 4x4 off-road all-purpose vehicles located in Natchez, Mississippi.
