These small attractions will leave big impressions on guests that stay in hotels in Vauxhall
London is known for its attractions of grand size, but did you know it also has some of the smallest and narrowest attractions, too? These small gems are worth visiting if you are looking for inexpensive tourist attractions, you are on a budget, and you want to see attractions that may not be in the history books.
If you are staying in hotels in Vauxhall or hotels near Victoria Station, you might want to kick off your small tour with a visit to the smallest church in London, St. Ethelbert-the-Virgin in Bishops gate. It was built in the 13th century and the church is only 17 metres by a little more than nine metres.
Small gems to visit on the Cheap
Tiny pub–The Dove
Tiny attractions in London have their popularity, in part because of size. These attractions aren’t all places you look at only. The Dove, for example, is a bar where you can step in for a drink. It is said to be the smallest pub in Borough Market, though there are other pubs that are claimants. A mere metre and almost a half to a little more than two metres, this pub does not have much room for too many patrons at once.
Tiny Memorial – To mice and men
It may seem to be only a building with two mice and a chuck of cheese in one corner. But, there is more story to this odd decoration, on Philpot Lane at Eastcheap. Erected in 1862, it is said to pay homage to two men working on the memorial nearby. One man accused the other of eating his lunch, a cheese sandwich. A scuffle ensued and both men fell to their deaths. The real culprits were mice. It is a great attraction for history lovers to visit, even if it is not close to a Vauxhall hotel in London.
Narrowest Ally – Italy may not top this!
If you are staying in a Vauxhall hotel in London or on of the budget hotels near Victoria Station, you may feel up to the challenge of passing through London’s narrowest
Alley. A mere 38 centimetres, this ally in Covent Garden is worth a look. It is a great place to visit while staying in hotels in Vauxhall. Unlike London’s famous London Eye, you do not have to pay £20 to see this attraction. Save your money and find one of London’s best pie or cuppa shops.
Tiny house – on Hyde Park Place
A fixture since 1805 and once a tiny house in Covent Garden, the building is charming. But, it isn’t for those who hate tight spaces. A mere 95 centimetres, tourists staying in hotels near Victoria Station or budget hotels near Vauxhall will enjoy this house that is thought to originally serve as a way to close an opening into St. George’s cemetery.
