The candlelight atmosphere makes the D.O.C. Wine Bar in Chicago, Illinois a comfortable place to unwind.  This Lincoln Park bar has a widespread menu that contributes to the vast wine menu.   You do not need to be a connoisseur to enjoy D.O.C.’s wine menu as there are plenty of choices for a novice.  If you are looking for something to nibble on while drinking wine, they have a variety of dessert cheeses.  You’re just grazing, opt for the cured meats or a selection of extraordinary dessert cheeses

The Butcher Shop may not be what you would think of when going to enjoy some exquisite wine; however, the traditional type European boucheries, this rustic neighbourhoodretreat is centered around a huge butcher block that’s replenished with freshly baked loaves and bottles of olive oil.  This Boston, Massuettes, gem has a menu filled with homemade sausages, pâtés, and terrines-while the wine selection consists of bottles from France, Spain and Italy.

Remodeling a former Laundromat, the Lavomatic Café is the latest Cincinnati masterpiece by chef, Jean-Robert de Cavel.  There may only be 30 types of wine to choose from; however, the long bar made of cork and the delicious menu make this place an experience not to forget.

The unique old encyclopaedia wallpaper makes the Bar Covell a relaxing environment.  This Hollywood Boulevard establishment changes its wine by the glass daily.  The menu may be small by the jalapeno mac and cheese is something to die for.

As walking into Max’s Wine Dive, in Huston, you might think that you are in the wrong place.  However, do not judge a book by its cover.  The jukebox, concrete floors and 1960s type of booths gives off a Happy Days atmosphere but the 160 selections of wine by the glass and inventive comfort food is something that you can only find in this century.

Previously found at the Fitzgerald Hotel in San Francisco, the bar has been relocated to the financial district.  The Hidden Vine is a two room bar attire consists of zinc countertops and inviting fireplaces.  Since some of the best vineyards are so close by, the wine list is made up of mostly California choices.  The menu is full of delights and the steak sliders are a must.

With no doubt, there must be at least one establishment from New York on this list.  The Lelabar is one of the best.  The oval wraparound bar is the focal point of the candlelight bar.  Located in the West Village, the wine list features about 150 carefully selected bottles.  Consider sampling the Cheese Trio Panini to start and the spicy lamb sausage with a glass of 2009 Comelli Soffubergo.
