Never underestimate the value of a good Suzani throw pillow

Author: Max Alton

I never design a living space without including interesting throw pillows and I prefer some of the beautiful suzani embroidery pillows that are now available. However, I also believe the pillows can either make or break a living space area. This is because it is the throw pillow that adds that intimate feeling to any living area. To help make your choice easier I have added some guidelines to help you understand how ikat decorative throw pillows can make a room just right.

1. Take the cushions that match your sofa off. You don’t want those anymore. At the very least you want to change them for gorgeous velvet pillow covers. So grab and run to the nearest thrift store. If you do have a sectional or large sofa then you can include decorative throw pillows with those that came with the furniture. This helps pull the room together.

2. Dont Repeat Patterns

If you have a pattern in the ottoman then dont repeat it in the toss cushions. Let your toss cushions have their own personality. Think of solid colored velvet pillow covers instead.

  1. If you choose solid colored velvet pillow cover cushions, make sure these are complimentary and pull the colors of the room together. Often times it is the toss cushions that become huge key elements in the design and help bring the entire look together.
  2. When you use patterned ikat throw pillows instead of solid colored throw pillows, you want to use a pattern that picks up another color in your living area. So a pattern with black in it might work well with a black colored sofa.
  3. The easiest way to buy new suzani sofa throw pillows without taking your whole living room with you is to take pictures of your living room and determine what the focal colors are. Find the colors that match your current living room colors and choose suzani pillows hat match that.

Bottom Line

The Suzani or ikat styled throw pillows offer instant cultural interest to any living room space. These are hand dyed pillows and embroidered fabrics with modern flair that work in both traditional designed homes and the modern minimalistic style favored by young adults. The idea is to bring both the ancient and the modern together to create an eclectic custom style.
