Jointing System For UPVC Piping
The flexibility of usage combined with cost-effectiveness has made Unplasticized Polyvinyl Chloride (UPVC) the first preference among thermoplastic materials. UPVC Pipes and fittings can withstand rugged environmental conditions involving heat, moisture, chemicals, micro-organisms, etc. Resistance to corrosion, chemicals and weathering makes them ideal for a number of applications. They are extensively used for transportation of potable for domestic and industrial uses. Few specific applications of UPVC Pipes and fittings are listed below.
Applications Of UPVC Piping System
- Agricultural irrigation
- In venting systems
- For conveying abrasive slurries
- In disposal of sewerage and industrial effluents
- Conveyance of harsh chemicals including acids and bases.
- Ground water transportation
Jointing Systems For UPVC Pipes & Fittings
The applications mentioned above have their own specific requirements. The ambient conditions are different and so are the challenges for the UPVC Pipe Systems. Consequently, different types of installation techniques are adopted. Commonly, three jointing methods are used, which are described below.
- Loose Couplers: Double socket loose couplers are used to join chamfered, plain ended UPVC Pipes. Although, use of loose couplers may be a bit expensive but there is a big advantage as well; there is no loss of length in making the joint.
- Integral Solvent Weld Joint: In this method of pipe joining, the spigot end is formed into a bell end which allows the insertion of spigot end of the other pipe for chemical bonding. The process is time consuming but is the most cost effective of all the UPVC Pipe jointing methods.
- Integral Ring Seal Joint: Integral Ring Seal Joint is the quickest joining technique for UPVC Pipes and also involves the lowest installation costs. The spigot end of the pipe is formed into a bell end and a synthetic rubber seal is set inside. The effective length of the pipe reduces by the depth of the belled socket.
The bottom line is UPVC Pipes are attributed with such a set of physical and mechanical properties that provides them a great degree of flexibility for varying installation conditions and methods.
