With the progressive technologies, there are many types of razors which can be used to shave. We are going to look at 5 different types of shavers present in mens shaving kit and their pros and cons.

1. Disposable Shavers: These shavers are made of plastic and are meant to be discarded after one or two shaves.

Pros: These disposable shavers are inexpensive and are an ideal stop gap arrangement for travel or camping.

Cons: The quality of these razors is below par and they are made of flimsy steel blades with inflexible fixed head.

2. Electric Razors: These razors are a popular choice of travelers and people who are on the move and considered by some as best shaver for men.

Pros: These shavers can be used on the go even without cream, water and sink.

Cons: Though these electric shavers are convenient, they are not as effective as a double edge razor in giving a close shave and it is very expensive to buy shaving machine.

3. Cartridge Razors: These are simple and easy to use and allow us to shave with or against the hair follicles. They are made of metal or plastic handle with a flexible center, which allows the razor to move along the contours of the face.

Pros: These cartridge shavers are safest to use without any chance of accidents. Each cartridge gives 5-10 shaves and replacement cartridge can have up to 6-10 blades.

Cons: These cartridges are expensive and can cause irritation due to need of shaving an area many times to completely shave off the hair.

4. Safety Razors: These safety razors were the traditional old school razors used by our fathers and grandfathers. These are made of permanent handle and a metal head which can hold a single replaceable stainless steel blade whose both edges are sharp and can be used to shave.

Pros: The double edged razor blades are inexpensive and best safety razor blades can last a week. These razors need a very light pressure to shave the face effectively. As a result there is no irritation, rash and ingrown hairs. If you take care of your razor, it can last a lifetime.

Cons: These shavers need an expert hand as a slight misstep can cause nick and cut.

5. Straight Razors: Straight razors also called cut throat razor is made up of a sharp blade which folds inside the handle. The permanent blade is made of stainless steel or hardened steel. The handle may be made of plastic, metal or wood.

Pros: These razors provide the closest shave as their blades are very sharp. It will last a lifetime if frequent honing is done to keep the blade sharp.

Cons: Shaving with a straight razor needs a lot of practice, skill and time.
