Manage a Newly Sodded Lawn with the Sod Company Boise
New Residential Communities are on the rise all over Boise. With those new homes come new lawns. Boise Sod is easy to install and provides instant lawn facility to the homeowners. However, a newly sodded lawn requires more care and efforts than you would have to give to an already established lawn.
A new sod has shallow root systems, which takes time to establish in the soil. Establishing a deep and a strong root system is one of the major keys to obtain and maintain a healthy lawn. If you are thinking of a new lawn installed this spring, follow these steps to care and nurture your sod into a beautiful, healthy established lawn.
Watering
Boise sod requires more water than an already established lawn. It is so because the roots need to be consistently moist. First watering should be done immediately after the sod has been installed, and it is to be noted that the first watering should be a deep, allowing water to soak down 15-20 cm. Afterwards you should do watering early morning every 2-3 days until the sod has rooted. How often you water will depend on the amount of rainfall. Once the sod has rooted, it can be treated and watered as you would an established lawn.
Use
After installation, keep off your newly sodded lawn for at least 10 days. Start mowing by entering the lawn for the first 3-4 weeks. Newly installed Boise Sod needs the roots to become established and heavy foot traffic will damage this process. If you have to walk on the sod, use a different path each time to ensure you are not disturbing any particular area. You can create a barrier around the perimeter of your new lawn, using tape or stakes to prevent foot traffic on your newly sodded lawn.
Mowing
New sod should not be mowed immediately. Don’t mow your new lawn until 7-10 days after installation, and if your lawn is less than 7.5 cm in length it should not be mowed. The ideal length of new sod is at least 10 centimetres. Once the ideal length is achieved mowing frequency and height will be the same as established lawns. Lawns grow healthy when they are cut at 6-8 cm and should be mowed between 1-2 times per week, depending on the time of year. Don't remove more than 1/3 of the blade with each mowing session.
Aeration
One should hold off on aerating his new lawn until the roots are fully established. This could be the fall in some cases, or the following spring in others. Once the roots have been properly established aeration should be done as soon as possible to make sure any soil layers are eliminated.
