Smaller trees do not grow in the shade of larger trees

"When Ali decided to come back to Pakistan after his studies and join the group, I resigned as Chairman and director because I felt that if I remained, it would not be possible for him to grow. Smaller trees do not grow in the shade of larger trees. And Ali has grown the business far better than I could have done," says Jahangir Siddiqui proudly.

Ali Jehangir is a director of Jahangir Siddiqui & Co and is already doing wonders in Pakistan’s business scene. He began his career in Hong Kong in the private equity industry where he managed funds for various Asian governments. After business experience and knowledge by working with numerous investments and companies, Ali Jehangir Siddiqui became all ready to not only start his own ventures but take on the great responsibility of managing his family’s heritage as well. Since then he has invested into a number of emerging market companies which includes Agriculture, Aviation, Banking, Energy and Ports.

According to Ali Jehangir Siddiqui, the work he is most passionate about is giving back to communities. Mahvash and Jahangir Siddiqui Foundation is one of the major private sector not-for-profit organizations in Pakistan which funds in healthcare, education, social enterprise and disaster relief. He always tries to figure out the most effective ways to bring continuous relief and development to sidelined communities for their bright future.

The young businessman’s involvement as Member Board of Investment of the Government of Sindh, Member Community Development Board of the Government of Sindh and Member Corporate Advisory Council of the National University of Science and Technology is unquestionable proof that he understands the importance of changing trends in policy and government lobbying. It is not common to see such an involvement by any young and successful businessman in government, which is an inspiration for the country’s youth.

Within JS Group, Ali Jehangir Siddiqui has held various responsibilities, including being an Executive Director at the Group’s investment management business from 2002-2003 and Managing Partner of JS Private Equity, the private equity business he established in 2006. JS Private Equity is Pakistan’s largest private equity firm. He is also Advisor to the Chairman and Board of JS Bank.

Only in his thirties, Ali Jehangir Siddiqui has achieved a lot of success and is an example of a good fortune. Time will soon tell what greater feats will come out of the Siddiqui family!
