Choosing A Pear Shaped Loose Diamonds

Author: Angelina Gertz

The cost of a loose diamond is different from a princess jewellery as you need to pay for the precious metal used and the making charges of the jewellery. Thus, buying a loose diamond is always more financially viable than buying a diamond jewellery. If nothing, you will end up paying for the indirect brand cost of the jeweller.

When comparing the actual price of the loose diamond, you need to evaluate the common factors like the cut, the colour, the clarity and the carat weight. The accompanying certificate, often from GIA, also helps to establish the true value of the diamond. Depending on the personal preferences and budget, proceed to buy your favourite diamond, using the following criteria.

Certificate: GIA is one of the best known authorities on rings and their grading is accepted worldwide. American Gem Society Laboratories (AGSL) is another institution whose certificate is honoured around the globe. Certificate from either of these institutions carry the carat weight, grade, polish, cut, clarity, colour factor and more details about the princess and help us to establish a value of the diamond.

Shape: the shape of the wedding also influences the value. While a traditional round brilliant cut diamond will always cost more, a less common shape like the pear shaped loose diamonds will cost much less.

Cut: The overall cut of the diamond can be defined into three categories, shallow, deep and ideal. If the cut is shallow, the light escapes via the pavilion and if the cut is too deep then the light escapes via the facets on the side. In either cases, the diamond looks dull and unattractive. An ideal cut ensures that the light is properly reflected by the stone giving it the most desired dazzle and sparkle. This cut is achieved less frequently.

Colour: The better the colour grading of a diamond is, the less colour will be seen within the stone. While the D class is the highest and completely colourless, the E class bands are considered to be rare and the great rings generally come with an F grade.

Clarity: Loose diamonds which are clear are the most expensive while less costly bands often carry scratches or trace elements within them. They are known as inclusions. There is a fixed rule of evaluating the wedding on this basis. The diamond might also have natural flaws and imperfections which lower their overall grades.
