A Thrilling Activity-Based Itinerary for a Family Trip to Peniche
Family surfing holidays are fantastic fun and it is a great way to bond with your kids. Additionally, when they are in beautiful settings, you can also show them stunning natural beauty and provide them with an eye-opening experience. I personally think that Peniche, Portugal is the ultimate family surf holiday destination as it boasts some of the best surf beaches on the Silver Coast. Peniche is also a scenic harbour city with a rich history and plenty to explore.
This is what a typical itinerary looks like if you book with my team at Summit & Blue.
Day 1
After a short transfer from Lisbon airport to Peniche, check in and get settled into the trendy Surfer’s Lodge - complete with homely bedrooms and a cool atmosphere. Head out and soak up some sun on the beach, followed by an evening stroll down the harbour for a delicious seafood dinner.
Day 2
Following a hearty breakfast, kick start your family surf holiday with your very first lesson following a quick briefing from the surf academy manager. Enjoy a well-deserved lunch, before an afternoon walk through Peniche. Be sure to check out the Peniche Fort and the museum for a background of this intriguing and historic city. Find a local restaurant to taste the exquisite local cuisine, plus be sure to try a glass (or two... or three) of Portuguese wine as you soak up the atmosphere in the village.
Day 3
Your second surf lesson will boost your confidence and should see you make progress, so reward yourself with a fine lunch before a fun afternoon activity, or simply chill out on the beach or back at the resort. A few fun family friendly activities on offer include sailing, diving, canoeing, windsurfing or a trip to the brilliant Sportagua water park. In the evening, take a leisurely stroll along the beach and find one of several beach bars and restaurants for a night of fine food and wine with the shore just a few steps away.
Day 4
After catching a wave with another morning surf lesson, head back into Peniche to further explore this enchanting harbour village. A few of my personal recommendations include the Nossa Senhora dos Remedios Sanctuary for stunning views and plenty of family photo opportunities, plus the beautiful Sao Pedro and Misericordia Churches.
Day 5
Following breakfast and another surf lesson, consider letting the kids try out a new activity whilst you spend a romantic afternoon together. This could include a memorable sailing trip out to sea, a stroll through Peniche whilst stopping off at a few quiet drinking spots, or a walk down by the picturesque coastline. Catch up with the kids at the lodge restaurant before relaxing on the rooftop chill out area for star gazing and relaxed music.
Day 6
After another delicious breakfast at the lodge, head out for your final surf lesson where you should feel a great sense of accomplishment and enjoy the unique feeling of riding a wave. Chill out on the beach before packing up and heading for the airport.
This is what a typical family surf holiday to Peniche includes. However, my team and I can also create tailor-made itineraries built around the adventures that you like. Please call us today and we can talk about any ideas you have and start making your dream family holiday a reality.
