Four Methods to Remove Craft Glue from Carpet Flooring

If you have small kids or simply have to do small projects around your home, then you have probably used craft glue. In addition to using this type of glue, you have probably had experiences in which it was stuck to something. Carpet is one of the places that you want to avoid with craft glue, but if it ends up on your carpet, there are four different ways that you can remove it. Regardless of the method you choose, you will have to have a little time and patience to effectively remove it.

Use a Butter Knife

One way that you can remove the craft glue is by using a butter knife. Since the glue will probably have harden before you can begin removing it, the butter knife will allow you to scrape off the majority of it. By using the butter knife instead of a sharp knife, you reduce the risk of damaging your carpet. After you have scraped off as much glue as you can, you should use a damp cloth to get rid of the remaining glue.

Use Vinegar

A method that has been used in the past is the white vinegar method. This method simply involves using the white vinegar to loosen the glue, and once loosened, a warm, damp cloth can help get rid of the glue. Also, white vinegar is safe to use on the carpet. However, since vinegar does have a distinct smell, you may have to use air freshener and carpet freshener to eliminate the smell of vinegar from your home.

Carpet Shampoo

Although not as effective as the previous two methods, carpet shampoo can also help to remove craft glue from your carpet. For best results with this method, you should use it in combination with the butter knife method. First, use the butter knife to scrape off as much glue as you can. Once scraped, use the carpet shampoo to scrub the remaining glue away.

Use a Hot Iron

Craft glue is difficult to remove from carpet because it has usually hardened by the time you notice that it is on there. By using a hot iron to melt the glue, you can then use a cloth to absorb the melted glue. This method can be dangerous if you burn your carpet. This method should only be used as a last option unless you are experienced with using a hot iron to remove glue.
