Author: Lisa Jeeves

If you are booking a first class holiday at the resort of Calabash, Grenada, you will want to know exactly what you can expect at this prime location on one of the most beautiful Caribbean Islands. Arguably the most picture-postcard perfect of the islands, with its warm and welcoming atmosphere, its laid-back lifestyle, fabulous food, and incredible weather it is a great place to spend a luxurious holiday.

The island's finest

There is an abundance of high-class accommodation on the island, but one of the most famous resorts is certainly the Calabash. Grenada is well known for its luxury, boutique resorts but rates among the best with those in the know. Oozing that cool combination of casual Caribbean charm and exceptional service, the resort will have you unwinding and relaxing in no time. From the Calabash, Grenada and all of its great attractions and activities are easily reached, making it convenient as well as picturesque.

Designed with a contemporary feel and a delightfully enchanting edge, this resort is all en suite and some rooms even have plunge pools. There is a top class spa with three treatment rooms offering a range of holistic therapies and a gym and pool too. The yoga pavilion is perfect for an afternoon Zen session, while for the more active visitor the windsurfing, kayaking and sunfish sailing opportunities are bound to impress.

Days appear long and relaxed on this island and no one is in a rush, making it the perfect place to avail of all of the resort facilities. Perhaps the tennis courts may appeal, or the scuba diving centre at the beach offers comprehensive scuba courses as well as recreational diving. Bear in mind that some recreational activities are complimentary but others do incur an added cost. The golf course is off-site but is a thoroughly enjoyable course for the keen golf fan, and, if you are looking for more adventure, the rainforest walks and whale watching trips are fantastic options.

The resort has an excellent social scene, with the manager organising a weekly cocktail party at the Beach bar and frequent live steel band music sessions too. Restaurants in the resort are renowned throughout the island, serving up delightfully fresh food that fuses Caribbean colour and flavour with a refined elegance, befitting of the ambience of Calabash.

Grenada is a spectacular place to visit at any time of the year, with its balmy temperatures and long sunny days. If you prefer a quieter holiday, however, make sure you avoid the festivals, such as the drum festival at Tivoli and the Carnival in August. For the party animal though, these are definitively the best times to visit. The dry season falls between November and May and is when most of the visitors flock to the island.

There is no doubt a visit to this fabulous Caribbean island will have you returning home relaxed, replenished and full of memorable stories.
