Looking for a 2017 XV? Subaru Fans Read this Brief Review First
When it comes to the popular XV, Subaru has clearly decided to stick to a winning formula. In Australia alone the SV have sold around 50,000 units, so one would not expect radical changes. For the uninitiated, the Subaru XV is like an Impreza hatch that has been pumping iron at the gym. It has a muscular profile and off road focused features that have made it an easy sell for Australians in love with compact SUVs. Let’s take a closer look at what the 2017 Subaru XV has to offer.
The Pumped Up Exterior:
The latest model is the third generation, and it’s based upon the new Subaru Global Platform developed for future releases. This brings the centre of gravity down whilst maintaining the same 1,550mm height of its predecessor. The wheelbase is longer by 30mm at 2,670mm, and the overall length has increased by 15mm up to 4,465mm. The width between the mirrors has also increased by 20mm up to 1,800mm. The new dimensions combined with features, such as 18" wheels, muscular body cladding and an aggressive front grille, certainly makes an impact.
The Revised Interior:
Subaru has pushed the boat out with plenty of new interior features. The cabin is well thought out and ergonomically designed. The seats are comfortable and Australian models feature a 7" touchscreen display on lower spec models and an 8" unit on high spec variants. All the touchscreens have Android Auto and Apple CarPlay functionality, USB ports and navigation (not on the base model 2.0i). There is plenty of space in the rear with dual ISOFIX child seat anchor points and three top tether points. There is plenty of storage within the cabin, and the boot has 350 litres of space with a space saver spare under the floor.
Under the Bonnet:
Here we can find the same 2.0 litre four cylinder boxer powerplant that is found in the Impreza. This engine generates 115kW of power and 196 Nm of torque. There is no manual model; all XVs now have an automatic Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) as standard. The fuel use is claimed at 7L/100km combined, which is quite an improvement on the first generation model and is helped by the new stop/start feature. Of course, as a Subaru, all wheel drive (AWD) is standard.
